The other method I used was from Image Analyzer. The Color Correction tab has a subroutine called "enhance local contrast". I used the 'reduce shadows' function, and boosted contrast within that setting. Again, basically a one step operation. The highlight detail seems to have suffered a bit compared to the other method, but I didn't notice until after I had closed it out. Maybe could have done better if I had taken a bit more time.
