Smile Hierapolis, a tribute to Sun God Apollo

Hierapolis (sacret city), founded in the second century BC. by the king of Pergamon, Eumenes II, is unique for its location on the top of a hill made of travertine cascades breaking the sun into!! The ancient city which is a World Heritage Site, still serves as a healing center with its thermal water flowing forever...and makes a good candidate for hdr : )

You may need to scroll a bit for the relatively longer images.

1.

2.

3.

4. I believe you will enjoy swimming around Roman columns in the natural hot spa pool on a winter day : ) The picture below was also a three shot hdr taken with the polarisor filter on so as to eliminate the reflections to be able to show the depth of the pool.

5.

Just caught the last rays of sun in the ancient theater overlooking the plain on the hill...One day is never enough to do justice there!

Enjoy : )

Absolutely amazing shots. The last, over the theater, is especially good. But I really like sunsets and great HDR.

Thank you for the kind feedback, Dusty. Good pick indeed .The first image is a stitch work of two photos each of which comprise three exposures of 2 ev spacing. The exposures to go in #2 was shot a bit earlier before I reached the top to shoot #1.

Thank you for letting me know about your opinion. I still feel my feet in water stepping on the travertines while laening over the water to shoot for that 2nd one : )

@ Bynx:

Happy to read your words of appreciation signalling to your sensitivity...
My humble equipment set is at your disposal during that week my friend : )
Below I attach some images of the lake you see at the bottom of the first image to stiffen your resolve of paying a visit. They were shot just the day before
Btw, be careful about any donation you intend, since Apollo cannot be said to be forgiving for any unworthy sacrifice

a non hdr stitchwork

Ah, you may remember the following stanza by Poe:

For the heart whose woes are legion
'Tis a peaceful, soothing region...

I'm so pleased to read your encouraging words again my friend.
Being acquainted with your deep appreciation for history and having seen your inspirational architectural pictures accompanied by your insightful comments over years, I feel particularly rewarded
