Default Containervessel Hard Aground On Rocks - Nightshot

Last saturday (February 19th) was fullmoon and I went down the coast to shoot a merchant marine vessel that had run aground some days before. The full moon brought with it some weather high and very cold temperatures. Ideally to shoot night shots, as the air is usually crispy clear and visibility good. It was cold all right. My car-thermometer showed minus 14 Centigrade when I got there and there was this light wind coming from the north-east (which means Siberia...!) making it even colder.

Nikon D300s / Nikkor 16-85mm ED VR / 16mm / f/7.1 @ 6 - 10 - 15 - 25 - 30 seconds exposure time. A 5 exposures HDR.

The 165meters long vessel M/S GODAFOSS --> http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shi...mmsi=304158000 a Icelandic Containership of 17.000 tonnes, hard aground on solid Norwegian granite rock.
See also: http://photos.marinetraffic.com/ais/...4964&size=full

What we see here is the vessel aground, listing slightly to port, unable to get off by own power. The ship had to be releived of most of its cargo and all holding tanks (water, oil, diesel, etc) had to be emtied, before it was attemted to pull it off. 2 internal tanks, each holding 500 tonnes heavy oil had been ruptured in the accident, resulting in a devastating oil spill, in one of the most vulnerable areas for marine birds, with hatching grounds all over the place.

We can also see - roughly halve a boatlength in front of the vessel - the very lighthouse with bright flashing light, warning seafarers of the underwater rocks where the ship went aground...

Some other shots, during the day:

I haven't been over here to the HDR topic in a while and hadn't seen this. That first picture is really awesome - I love it.
