Definitely remindful of or adds (or creates) a touch of "expressionism" style.
(Maybe something along the lines of an August Macke.)

As such, I probably would have "hit it harder toward that kind of direction."

A beautiful scene - yes as you say very 'rural' ... the shadows blend in very well with the old buildings & the truck. Pity the sun is bleaching out so much - but I have the same issues as well!

Yes, shooting into the Sun does have that effect. It was quite hot, and that treatment gives me the feel of the way I saw it at the time.
