I noticed that if I record in DVD mode the bitrate is always 249 KB/sec and in HD mode it is 492 KB/sec. I looked for a menu option to change this but I didn't find any.

The widely spred cheap 120x SD cards nowadays allow bitrates of over 15 MB/sec. This is over 30 times higher bitrate available over the current HD bitrate the camera records at ...

Is there an undocumented way of altering the bitrate for higher quality when needed? The codec chip is already there, and it shouldn't have any problems with less lossy compression at the cost of extra data storage per sec. needed ...

Sometimes one is willing to sacrifice space for higher quality of a short video clip
