DXG is announcing the new $149 DXG-566V HD camcorder:

Perhaps it will appear at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Vegas.

Well, its not vaporware after all ... nice find! A little competition for the A-HD.

Now if they'd sell the 595 here, the GO-HD would have some competition too.

For those who might not be familiar with the other, yet-to-be-officially-released DXG "HD" 720p camcorder models...

I like the mic and flash on front. Not a big fan of the separate still and movie modes on the dial. I really like my A-HD (still button used in video mode; very convienient).

This design looks like it may be more "tripod friendly" than my CG6 and other hybrids. One problem we run into with the really skinny ones is that, even though they have a tripod mount, they don't work well on a tripod because they are so skinny and tall. It is very difficult to explain without actually having tried it yourself. But something with a wider based on the tripod works much better. Even my IS-DV2 works pretty well on the tripod because it has a wider base.

not DXG

Here is the Exemode DV580HD, a 720p, h264 camcorder. It comes with 32MB of built-in memory, compatibility with SD and SDHC cards, and cost a high $222. You'd be better off buying a Sony in that case!

Wow, the HD competition is heating up! I actually am looking forward to trying the DVS-567 . I have some other cameras I am playing around with that are similar and I like them a lot, but they are not HD. Good info!

These cameras that Fishy is publicizing.

They're obviously the same camera.

But -- apparently -- more than one company simply purchases from the same contract manufacturer in China.

So GreenHouse, Exemode, and DXG wind up the with the same camera.

Actually, DxG is the manufacturer. Most of entry-level brand name company do ODM business too. Such as DxG, Foxconn(Premier), Aiptek, and Mustek.
