i picked up an Action HD yesterday and i'm very satisfied with the quality of the video.

this afternoon as i continued to test the Action HD, the image became permanently blurred and macro mode no longer functions.

is there a way to "hard" reset the Action HD? or how about flashing the firmware as a way to reset the unit?

sorry to hear that. best contact or return.

you may flash the cam by loading FW but that is not a reset. a default is located in the cam in settings towards the bottom.

battery removal is also a soft reset default is a hard reset. and FW will only flashing may not correct

best again contact Aiptek.

1 are you sure you're off macro and works.

2 there is a li-on motherboard battery opening will only void your warranty, and not fix the issue

i'll probably just swap it at walmart (assuming they have one in stock).

where can i find the latest firmware. i checked aiptek's website but at first glance i didn't notice a link to any Action HD firmware.

i already tried that. all that does is reset the user-settable settings. my unit needs a factory reset.

i already tried that too and nothing changed. removing the battery didn't even offer a settings reset.

absolutely. additionally (i forgot to mention this in my earlier post), the zoom function also no longer works.

fwiw, this definitely seems like a bug. all of these functions ceased operation at the same point in time--when i was videoing my computer screen while simultaneously zooming and using the macro function. the unit attempted to auto-focus, failed, and remaining "stuck" in an unfocused state. every other function continues to work properly. i can shoot and download blurry videos. led lights continue to function, etc. and the videos that i shot prior to this glitch all look fine when i view them on the camera.

i don't see how to crack the case open to access the motherboard. this would be helpful to know for future mod'ing and repair. is there a how-to dis-assemble an Action HD guide anywhere?

thanks,
david

it is my opinion.

the design change will soon hit the USA market the old styles will be faized out.( spell me)

BIos chip cannot be done by the customer like us you will need to send in for a full repair we can add info to the cam and go foward, and not go backwards in flashing

Wow, I bought a 16GB SDHC PNY card for $54.99 a few days ago online. It arrived today. I put that baby in my Action HD.. and it sees it fine. Says it will record up to TEN HOURS and somewhat seconds in D1 60fps! I think it's like 5 hours at 720p 60fps.

And just a side note, for someone just wanting to make standard DVD video, the D1 60FPS isn't too bad on this camcorder. Just what I've noticed. Either way, this camera seems to do a decent job of capturing quality video for the price!
