Not sure why I can't put your quote above my text but, nonetheless, I really like avidemux and virtualdub as well and use them for most of my editing. Anyway I have found two thing that can work with the .mov files off of the Action HD that work quite well and aren't too terribly difficult. First is the free Mediacoder at mediacoder.sourceforge.net. I am getting used to it but it has loads of options and works pretty darn well. You can convert to xvid with just a couple clicks.

Next, if you want to use virtualdub, go to http://forum.videohelp.com/topic284288.html. Old post but works quite well. Basically you just install ffdshow, Haali media splitter and quicktime alternative, create an .avs file that points to your .mov as a directshow source instead of the usual avisource and BOOM, you can open stuff with virtualdub and play the .avs file with windows media player. I sure hope this helps someone because I was looking for this everywhere and there are a lot of posts asking how to use free software to edit the action HDs videos.

The Aiptek Action HD looks like a very interesting camera. I have a couple of questions I need to ask you experts:

5) I like to use avidemux to edit video but it does not support the implementation of the h.264 (hope I remember that correctly) well. Has anyone had success here? What about virtualdub?

This user has some good test clips online,
where you can see quite nicely the zoom functions
in each mode...

Greetings:

Its been just a couple of hours I've been testing the Aiptek Action HD.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to avoid the noise of the Auto focus motor
being recorded.

Its not that its annoying but you can still hear it.

Has anyone found a solution for this?

Regards Robert

Deep in the threads.........................

1 can update FW will reduce heat noise and may just place other unuseful artifacts to the cam.

2 one can open up and apply the missing grease.

3 one may just edit.

the noise is most common for this and may have been tuned down a lil but firmware cannot control moving parts to be quiet. other cams have it that have Auto focus 50/50 why I love my JVC

Greetings:

My Aiptek's Action HD firmware states that it is version 1.308.

Is there a newer version available?

What is the step by step method of upgrading the firmware.

As for the auto focus noise, I think when I use the camera outdoors, this problem will not be noticed.

But can someone tell me what were Aiptek Technicans thinking when the first production model rolled off the line and noticed this auto focus noise.
Maybe an idea of fixing it before they sell many of them?

Regards Robert

FW tells the gear to be silientso the gear can only get quieter by ? Slowing down. I am sure you would notice the gear noises on other makes aswell. like the Kodak 600 700 series . so hearing some noise isfinebut yes when you are inside in a silient situation it is by far LOUD. but it takes power to turn on the Mic and noise triggers it.

Yes I hear ya but the Inspection people no longer work there LOL
