Welcome to the forums. I've moved your post down to our Hybrid Still/Movie/MP3 Digicams forum, where you'll probably find more members that can give you suggestions on software to use for video conversion.

FFmpeg is an open source, command line utility that can convert video. If you search using Google, you can find some sites that have it compiled for Windows.

There are probably plenty of other programs available, too.

Here's a GUI front end designed to work with FFmpeg if you don't like command line.

The video converter I use is called "super." It is freeware, written by a frenchman, and so the website is a little cryptic, but this Windoze program will convert from anything to anything else. If you understand video and codec formats, this is all you need:

I use a program called Total Video Convertor that is available for a small fee on the web. It is an AMAZING program. It can conert to many different formats inculding ripping mp3s from mpeg and flv video, converting mpeg 1 and 2 to mpeg 4 video etc. Its got the most options I have ever seen in one video conversion program.

I use it to rip mpg4 (quicktrime video) from the DVDs that my TV type DVD recorder burns. I save a lot of fire and rescue related stuff and it helpsd me to get a ton of stuff to a single DVD.

I am running 3GB of ram on my laptop and I can rip approx 9.5GB of mpg 2 video to quick time mpg 4 video in an hour

Hi, there are lots of software on the net but it's very difficult to say which one is the best. Take a look at videoformatconverter.net where you can see reviews of the top video converter software. Hope this will help you.
Good luck!

I've never tried these, but there are many free video programs available here:
