Expensive... considering the lackluster image quality.

I guess Sony still thinks it has enough cachet with consumers to charge a premium for average products.

I had a look at the video file which was posted
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/blogs/...ndycam_answers
at this link:
http://www.tracyandmatt.co.uk/0.MTS (warning - it is about 80meg).

I found that it edited OK with my standard software (I use the CoreAVC Direct Show codec)

The video certainly doesn't show a working EIS. I found it difficult to find a steady frame in this clip. Maybe it was poor camera handling, though.

The reviews on Amazon were generally favorable. Latest price offered there is $790.

Anyone on this board buy it? How does the video compare to the other hybrids? The build looks quality but you could buy two new Sanyo's for the price of one of these.

Probably a very good camcorder -- the Sony brand usually means quality -- but it *should* for $790!

As for Sanyo, I won't buy Sanyo again after the dead pixel fiasco in connection with my VPC-CG6, which I've donated to charity.

Yeah if this sony ever drops to $400 I'll snatch one up. Unless Canon comes up with an updated improved version of the TX1 first, in which case I'll be all over that.
