iriver's E100 is $159.99 on Amazon:

It has a mic input. But I've been to the iriver Web site and I've read the manual and there's no specifications listing so I can't determine the quality of the audio recording capability based on the numbers.

A couple years ago when 3 chip cams broke below the $1000 barrier, there was a lot of talk about this.

At the time, it was decided that the way to go was with the Iriver mp3 player/recorder because it had a mic jack, could fit easily in a shirt pocket and was under a hundred bucks!!!

Not sure of the model number but by now, ebay ought to have something o' plenty! :G

The iriver iFP1000 model also has a microphone input:

I wonder if it supports 44Khz recording.

It seems to no longer be available on any Web outlets; I haven't been able to locate it for sale.
