I posted a video on Vimeo comparing the different modes on the Aiptek A-HD+ and threw in one with the Jazz HDV-178.
http://vimeo.com/1172212

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Took 4 shots and combined them together.
The Aiptek A-HD+ had the Digital Concepts 0.45 'Large' Magnetic Wide Angle Lens.

The Jazz HDV-178 had the Phoenix M-Power 0.45 'Small' Magnetic Wide Angle Lens.

1. Aiptek A-HD+ @ 1080p (1440x1080) 30fps ~7.5Mbps
2. Aiptek A-HD+ @ 720p 60fps ~6Mbps
3. Aiptek A-HD+ @ 720p 30fps ~4Mbps
4. Jazz HDV-178 @ 720p 30fps ~4Mbps

Remuxed the Aiptek footage with Yamb to switch the container from .mov to .mp4. Not needed for Jazz's .avi files since they behave with Sony Vegas.
Edited with Sony Vegas and rendered to 720p 30fps 6Mbps WMVHD.

A few things I noticed right away..
* The A-HD+ in 1080p mode is more 'zoomed' in than 720p.
* For some reason, in the process of converting the 1080p footage down to 720p, the image became blurry. The original footage looks much much better.
* There's more artifacts in 1080p mode.

* There's a significantly more artifacts and the colors are much more saturated on the Jazz HDV-178.

Does anyone have the URL for the Phoenix website (not for a

site selling the Phoenix lens, but for the people manufacturing it).

thanks!

Might be hard to find. These magnetic lens' are pretty much generic. Many brands basically take the same lens and stamp on their company name on it.

They go by brands such as Phoenix, Digital Concepts, Sunpak, and probably others.

As fishy said, Jazz borders looks blurry.
Does the lens easily fall down from the Aiptek? Does it fit well?

The 'small' magnetic lens is a bit too small for the Jazz. That's why there's so much blurring going on at the edges.

They both fall down easy. It's just a small magnet holding it together. Besides that, ya, it pretty much fits around the lens easily. It's not like it's uneven.

The 'large' lens by 'Digital Concepts' has a lanyard. So I attach that to the Aiptek in case it does fall.

EDIT:
Here's where they have some.

I guess the brand of the month this time is Bower.
The one I have for the Aiptek is the large '2 for 1' variety.
Comes with a lens which has both macro and wide angle. 3 rings. Lanyard. Pouch.

When you screw off the top part, it becomes macro. It's actually pretty neat. More like super macro where you need to have the camera 1" away from where you want to focus.
The wide angle part of the lens is threaded too. So you can attach a filter if you wish.
