Any input on how the DXG-595V compares with the Samsung SC-HMX10? It is not that much more for the Samsung? Thanks.:?

rgvcam,

Here's a link:

Please note that it is in the original .mov format; you will need to use the arcsoft player to see it at it's best and a PC with a decent processor. The QT player on a PC makes these movies look terrible (pixellated even as stills); the arcsoft player is very smooth and brings out the full detail.

Best,

Brian
I couldn't find the arcsoft player. Is it a free download?

Anyway I used vlc player which seemed to play it smoothly. The camera handles vegetation quite well. I see Walmart has it for $179 now although a pity it's only online as I would've liked to have seen it in person before purchasing. This camera is on my shortlist at the moment to replace my HDV178 but I am waiting to see how the new Aiptek cameras that are about to make an appearance over here handle first.

I noticed Walmart seems to becoming the place for these cameras. I keep telling myself I am going to keep away from Walmart but that goes out the window when they are the ones with the exclusives

Fishy,

Should be set to public now. Thanks for the heads up!

Best,

rgvcam,

The VLC player is a true gem! It does work well on a quad core, but my dual core machine doesn't handle h.264 so well on this player.

You can find the arcsoft player here:

Best,

Brian

The vid was color graded. Blur is not vimeo.

It did okay in my opinion, the weaknesses are obvious enough. But it's handy enough and that counts for a lot.

I just got mine today from WalMart.

I appear to have the "old" firmware, just for fun here is what the firmware screens say...

FW: DVH596-V1.13-UA10
HW: DXG
UI OSD HD Table V1.1
Time Jun 11 1008 15:22:30
Bin: dvh596.bin
Lens: ZP500Z
Sensor MT94001
ROM: 6MB, DSP: 2048KB
Lens Cal:0 Pb Cal:1
Shade Cal:1
Default Lang/USB: 0/1
Default TV/Flicker: 0/1
Exif Model: DVC
Exif Maker: DVC
MSC Name: DVC
WB Com A: 1024/1024
WB Ref A: 1024/1024
WB Com D: 1024/1024
WB Ref D: 1024/1024
BPC 0/0]

I'm a little scared to update the firmware yet since it sounds like some calibration might be lost. I'd be especially worried about wiping out the hot pixel mapout table.
