May I suggest Avidemux 2.4 GTK+ for simple editing and excellent h.264 encoding?

It's a great little free tool to perform simple cuts, join videos, add fade-in/outs, de-interlace footage, resize, add filters, do color correction, re-sample audio, etc

It's basically the only thing I use to cut/compress the videos I shoot with my CG65 and is super fast too.

But that is not the PLUS version... at least not now. It's $57 for the plus version.

Yes you are right, I missed that. Even so the regular version is more than enough for me. I have no need of the extra features though obviously if I could've got it for $30 I would have :G

rgvcam,

Was that $5 rebate you got when registering the regular version a special, or is it part of the normal registration?

I've been auditioning both the regular and Plus version of EP14, and other than getting extra slots on the time line (does anyone really need 99??), the only difference I can find between the two are you get a DVD/CD copy and TV Media center modules with Plus version. I have both of those with my Vista OS, so if the MP4module can be added at no extra cost with that rebate, the regular version meets all my needs and more. Maybe I've missed finding some other extras in the PLUS version, but if so, I guess I won't be needing them for what I do.

It's really easy to add PIP with this program!

UPDATE EDIT:

I just got an answer to this by extending my trial period to 30 days. You have to register the trial version to extend it (free), and you get an email unlock code PLUS a $5 rebate code when you do this. BUT, the rebate is only good for 30 days, so use it or lose it. Buying the program on the MAGIX site is not the way to go... $45 for the download version, vs $37 with free shipping on Amazon.com or newegg.com.

Rather than start another topic thought I'd pop in here, give you guys a bit of a break from your high end stuff 8)

Basic editing for a newbie using a Digilife DDV-1080HD and Windows XP - Windows Movie Maker or Arcsoft Total Media Extreme? The latter does not seem very good http://www.arcsoft.com/en/forum/foru...s.asp?TID=1130 but then WMM may not much good either.

By basic editing I mean - cutting and joining, titles, soundtracks and simple touches like fadeouts. So, what do you reckon?
