I've been using a dvo-v58 aka dv5800 with my helmet camera (480 line sony) and I've never been happy with the quality, way too many artifacts compared to using my canon DV, but that's a royal pain converting back, and dealing with tapes.

Are the new HD versions better? I do realize they only record av input at 640x480, which is still an improvment over my old one, and should match the helmet cam nicely

are the artifacts still a problem with high motion?

I would just keep using this dv5800 but I lost the battery charger and the battery is now shot, rather than re-investing int his one that has poor quality with the helmet cam, an upgrade to 720p or 1080 may be worth it for me, if those rotten artifacts are gone

Sugestions?

welcome aboard mega72a

the newer models:

A-Hd or go are 720P they both will have a av input of 740x480 interlaced, interpolated etc. A member claimes it is 320x252 and modified

the Action Hd or A-HD+ are1080P both with 60 fps in 720P mode, the Av input is 640x480 res same info like above

Rolling shutter only occurres with actual filming, not 100% sure on the AV input.

yes the yare there but not as much as the older ones the A-Hd and Go will be more

now to top it off there are three new models less the AV input GVS soon to arrive the HS-HD and HD1

lets see what our members can bring up for ya.........

av input is a requirement for the helmet cam, looks like action HD or HD+ are the best route, walmart has the action HD HDV21X for 178 $

I'm going to check ebay and craiglist for it before I buy one

Aiptek.com sells the Action at 209.00 at walmart sells at 199 and now down to around 175.00 -correct on the price you are.

at Ebay you may find a steal ofa deal, etc..

the A-HD+ will sell as low as .99 at target while the reg price is around 160-70 on it

Action HD battery will only last 50 plus minutes while the A-Hd+ average 90 like the dv5800

yes you said Av input. I am sure there is no difference when av is used or not on the Action HD............

Action HD has optical zoom; A-HD+ does not.

Action HD comes with remote; A-HD+ does not although you can buy an Aiptek remote and it will control the A-HD+.

Hmmmmm.

Did I miss anything?

record is in the rear of the action record is in the front on the A-HD+

Action hasa emergency flash light yes justa flash light LOL while the A-HD+ does not

the Actions Hd has the mic on the screen that can be swiveled away from wind while the A-HD + is on top

recording with the Record LIve (not AV input)

open the cam it turns on hit record and closiing the screen, lcd goes out, cam turns off.

Action- HD andA-HD models.

only in lcd reverse you'll have it stay on

AV input

turn cam on, av in chosen. hit record close screen light turns off, cam keeps recording, till you choose stop
