This looked promising, especially if it retains the good low light ability of the original flip, but at $229 and no external memory card, I think I'll stick with the traditional hybrids since 60 minutes total would be a bit limiting to take on a trip. Having said that, I do wonder what the bitrate is, since the internal memory is 4GB which would suggest that it must be double what the current inexpensive Hybrids are capable of, but then again, as evidenced by the Action HD Pro, bestbuy do get their specs wrong.
They still haven't bothered to change the info on that one either...

Here is a reply to a request for more information on the Mino HD:

"Hello,

Until our products are officially released, we are unable to distribute the specifications on the Mino HD.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks,
Flip Support"

I am willing to bet that the internal memory is still 2GB which would bring the bitrate in line with all the other devices our there, but I hope I'm wrong!

If you click the link I provided and then click the OVERVIEW tab below, you will see the following:

Internal 4GB memory:

Holds up to 60 minutes of MPEG-4 video to store your video and photos without a memory card.

You could be right; it *might* be a misprint, but this time I kind of doubt it. I think they're saying the 4GB would be for both photos and video.

Do Flip camcorders actually take still photos, or are stills just created with frame capture software?

The BEST BUY Web page -- apparently down for the moment -- stated that, yes, this model takes photos. The quotation:

"Digital Still Resolution: Up to 1280 x 720."

I've gotten to like "Ipod" format video cameras. One neat little thing you can do with them that you cant do with others is record video from a shirt front pocket. I've found it helps stabilize the video to compensate for no shake reduction while moving around. I have the DXG-567V, interested to see how the video quality of the Flip compares. So far I'm happy with mine and for $100 and bundle of accessories it came with it I think it blows the FLIP HD out of the water. It just doesn't take separate photos. We will see...
