Hello fellow GVS owners, received my cam today, was so excited to put it on charge before heading for work. Came back and Start my testing i go.... Everything all good till about playback. There is a terrible noise in the video, like a hiss, the one that HD experienced but a lot more pronounced, so loud that i can easily hear it 5 inches away from the screen. When you put your ear next to the internal microphone which is right on the screen you hear the same noise. Can't believe that the noise is coming right from the microphone! I was wondering if I got a bad cam and if i should return it/exchange it. Do you have the same noise in your camcorder? (put your ear to the back of the screen and listen to it) Thank you for your help and good luck with your cams!
Mine doesn't have any noise coming out of my microphone and nor should it.No cameras microphone be should be emitting noise. If it is ,I would return it .

The EV worked for me under both Video/Still mode.

Can you showus your sample video? the environment and lighting condition might affect the EV.

I am testing, and yet not the time now to do a thorough one with the EV

Last night I checked the cam. in still mode set to -2 0 and +2and snapped the shots.

on a snale lit by a light near the grass and stones, thought I zoom in on hte snail.

-2, produced a shot that was dark, and worked fine

0 produced the shot and worked fine

+2 snapped the shot, and Blurred .

The zoom and +2 in EV will need a tripod as the shutter is opened longer.

below is a shot, no zoom same scenerio -2, 0, and +2 no zoom the EV works

In Zoom unknown distance in cam, as I am 5 feet and set to 3/4 optical. depending on the person andset up. I'll accept this as a good setting.

On Video, the EV setting seems to NOT work.and compared to the Action you will see see below

that the video with the gvs has no change, while the action shows change. even though the action on hte last to +1, and +2 keep to the same lighting. it is far better then my GVS.

  • disabled EV on video only [/*]
  • 1st lott with issues [/*]
  • 2nd lott with fixs[/*]
May be possable that they rushed these hybrids out with wrong firmware, nad corrected along the way, that is what I like to think? I also would want a fix only, and ONLY on hte EV nothing more single fix, not of every detail that ruins one thing and corrects others.

Here's something strange. My ev settings work now on video.

I happen to have my 1800mAh battery in and was charging it. While it was plugged and i had the camera on I happened to knock the battery out. When i put the battery back into my camera. no icons showed on the lcd. I then, shut it off and turned I on and only some of the icons were on and it showed only internal memory even though there was a 8 gig card in it. So, at this point I took powered the camera off ,took the battery out and held the power button on for 5 secs to discarge all power. Then replaced the battery and powered it up.

I turn the camera on and every icon was on like it should be.I then went and started checking if everything work and found that my ev settings work in my video from -2 to +2 like they should. and all off the setting match the differences in the ev setting in photo.

As in the Action the LCD screen you can see when you choose a setting the brightness-darkness, not on the GVS, only after and after it is chosen.

I thought I do the same but. holding the on/off like you said maxprime, and seeing hte lcd screen still keeping power, after the power off is displayed. then turning on we (I) see wash out in +2, -2 darkness. so once again a test video is needed for confirmation of discovery by you :G

if it is a find

here again is a different angle shot while sun is in front room is dark. you'll see

-2 0 +2

filmed in hd 1080P 30 fps, thought I see if 72p would enable the ev, it is a glitch. in the hybrid.

a through test will be needed

Ok, here's my video of the EV settings.

http://www.vimeo.com/2540367

Also, I found something odd. I was looking at the differentvideoresolutions and noticed that the [email protected] 30 fpswas wider than [email protected] 60 fps. So, After measuring it. I noticed it is nearly 3" wideron bothsides of the screenon the 720 @30fps compaired to the 720 @60 fps.

Here's the video of the test.

Note: the camera height from the lens to the floor is 56 inches.

I have looked tirelessly at reviews for all the handheld hd cameras.
The kodak zi6, minoHD, all the different aiptek cameras, jazz elite, and a sony

This camera seems to have the best of both the zi6 and minoHD but i dont see reviews etc everywhere. is it too good to be true? Do you think the video image is as good as those 2? i realise it says 1080p but that really means nothing to me if its filled with garbage.

It has the sd card slot, 60fps mode, macro mode and component output i like on the kodak, with it the low light capabilities (i think?) of minoHD. It even has mic input, image stabilization and zoom! seriously why is this not in the front?
I personally prefer the minoHD videos all over vimeo, to me they look extremly crisp, which im not fully sure about this cam or not.
like in http://www.vimeo.com/2384853, there seems to be alot of detail loss around his face and body etc even when this is shot at 1080p.

I am really interested in the best video quality and would like the 60fps for quality slow motion video (sports).
so what would you go with zi6, minohd, or this? be aware i was hoping to get this for xmas =x

the cam is too new, not many sites or many sites grab the cam, and write about what they see, but nevertest whatthey realy own. we know those sites, that I do not have to mention. and why I go out of my personal way for hte best Low Budget cam. and personal note it pays off at the end.

If we stick around and read the review posted on thetop thread or so. you'll learn everything you ever wanted to know and more, it takes time, and time is not what we all have :G .

MAxprime:

That is a true find, not knowing till pointed out, I have not yet shot lower then default, or HD1080P and will be doing my tests later.

We asked for a wider angle lense, we got a wider angle lense, and wish we had a little more wider angle lense.

The Ev setting Video deffently see an improvement over mine, We must figure out exactly if there is a auto or manual bypas,

again excellent shots and finds.
