Default I can't get the camera to take pictures at any other resolution other than 5MP

Hi All
I recently purchased a AIPTEK GVS (Model V5Z5S)
The Camera already came preinstalled with FW 2602.
Is that the most stable FW to date - Or should I downgrade it
If possible to a previous version ?

One of the problems I have now is :
I have read the manual completly but I can't get the camera to take pictures at any other resolution other than 5MP ,
In picture mode when I click down on the joystick it only keeps changing the video modes (HD60/HD30/QVGA.....) but keeps the 5MP icon
What am I missing ?
Thanks.

The camera only has a 5MP mode unlike previous cameras. Interpolated modes which are higher than the native sensor size are a waste of time anyway.

You can however take images which are the same resolution as the video mode by pressing the center of the joystick.

Hi.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
I forgot to mention that I've upgraded to 2802 FW hopping it was a bug, but the problem is now worst:
Formatted to 16Gb using the SDFormatter. After trying to format in the Z700 again I no longer can format it on the PC (shows up as an 8 Mb - not even Gb - LOCKED card).

The seller offered a refund... so I'll probably accept.
Any good 16 - 32 Gb SDHC? Transcend (original probably...)

Cheers,
Joao

FW2602 overseas, Z700.
The cam is only and only a 5 mb, meg camera still. you cannot snap anything lower in resolution of the "STILL MODE" in "MENU" below "VIDEO RES" is thestill, and says 5 mb . correct?

Continunous shot, "SINGLE and BURST
In the online PDF file, CDR E-manual, and paper manaul the instructios tell you that you can take 10 frame per burst, by snapping "IN" on the Joystick. but does not tell you that you can take a "SIngle frame shot.

Website
tells nodda zilch or anything in the USA, but on the TW dual mode recording.that you can snap a still on the video.

By using the Joystick , it is a FIVE way:
  • Up = macro - Infinity
  • Left = Flash on/off (red eye reduction )
  • Down + video res mode changes
  • Right + Af lock on/off
  • PUSH IN = Continous shot, single shot
Push in the Mouse (joystick)
the camera joystick shot will be in pic res a video frame rate shot of 50kb plus, of continous shot. a video frame rate in recording of 20kb pls

hope that helped out

Oh yes you have 8 meg, and 3 meg in the cam, and can goe as high as 12 meg.

Yes that helped ,
Thanks Fishycomics and rgvcam

What about the FW I have now 2602 ?
Should I upgrade to 2703 / 2802 ?
Someone here wrote that 2703 gives better skin color tones and contrast .
What FW do you think is best ?

Aiptek just sent FW 2900.
Let's see....

-----

nope. still the same.
Probably the card is the one to blame.
I can format a class 4 8Gb SDHC... so most probably a problematic card.

Does 2703 offer better saturation in general or just a tweak on the skin tones? I find that in overcast lighting the saturation is a bit duller than I'd like although in good light it's just right ie I don't want too much saturation either. I guess it may be worth upgrading for the better contrast.

Still deciding whether it's worth upgrading to 2703 myself. Of course TheShadow has now said there is a 2900 firmware? So what tweaks does that bring?
