Fishy,

Aiptek's Web site indicates the Action HD GVS does 1440 x 1080 and not 1920 x 1080.

¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* Is there anyone who will buy this Japan DX5 Camcorder so as to confirm
¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*
¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* if the camcorder is a true 1920 X 1080?

¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* Also has anyone seen any video on Vimeo or YouTube created by this
¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* camcorder.

¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* I have done research and this camcorder does not show up on Alibaba's
¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* Product Directory.

¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* Also searched for the website of "Japan Speed Digital" the camcorder's
¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* brand name and did not find anything.

¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* If anyone has insiders information it would be great to know more
¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬*¬* about this camcorder.

The company actually has a different name, alibaba has a link to their website, but as I said there is nothing there. The alibaba site actually has more products listed (global sources might also be a good place to check).

I would not get too excited, this maybe just a 1440*1080p camera mislabeled, maybe better ones might be announced at CES this week or so (actually now is a good time to check for ces press releases as companies can start releasing a few weeks before the show). Go to the ces site, and see if they have a press release section).

Notice the bit rate too, you would want to be doing ultra hd at those bit-rates. Why can't video players just list the bit rate and bit rate range straight up, so we know how it compares to other similar encoded cameras.

1400 is like a sub form of 1080p, it is expanded out to 1920 pixels on playback, so comes up as 1920 pixels too. It was there because television channels could not handle full hd content quality, and the reduced resolution helped fit it in. I suspect it reduces fly screening artifacts to due to the interpolation needed. But it still has problems. The channels needed to be up to double the size (reducing the over abundance of competitors in the TV market) or Mpeg4/h264, but realistically VP6-VP8 encoder (that would be a good encoding/decoding target for ambarella) might have been a better lower processing encoder. As it is, it strongly favours 720p, as long as you give 720p enough bandwidth. If governments legislated for 1080p full bandwidth channels, and healthy 720p bandwidth channels (preferably full bandwidth) that would improve the quality of HD. What are they going to do for 3D (being broadcast in Japan by national broadcaster) SHD (soon), or ultra-HD (32mpixel, 2012 Olympics) with world wide standards probably years after these. Ambarella is in a good place to provide decoder chips (and encoder). I recently read of some group figuring out approx 63mb/s SHD 3D or something like that. Ultra HD might be years away (there is sensor technology that can film this suitable for consumer cameras) and probably would scrape in at 100mb/s, but really needs 200mb/s (h264) for 32mp p60. This is 3mb/s and 6mb/s per million pixels, but because of how encoding quality scales with resolution and frames a second it may retain quality.

Look out for autosterscopic 3D displays at CES (3D displays that do not requires glasses).

Now that would have been nice, I hope they release it here.

I don't wanna make a new post for every new camera released at CES09, so I figured I use this thread instead.

Well I just wanted to show you guys about RCA's new HD hybrid. With a $120 pricetag, they will definantly attract a large amount of youtubers.

Good idea, it is a shame that there is no way to group each release post to the top of the thread, as it might be a big thread, but if Rob wants to he could copy links to new releases to his original post. What do you think Rob, would you like to?

Rob can probably answer himself. I am talking about after the first post, rather than the last to stop announcements spreading out and becoming hard to find like in the hybrid list thread. But there seems very little at CES so far, so the thread is probably not going to grow very big.
