Aiptek neversold a tripod, and gotten into it later on, they offer one at 50% off at times and the price is around 15.00, while on the site 20.00 is not bad at all.
Your local bestbuy, for 30.00,
I seen one by Sunpack and has , andsuggest looking into.
a tripod with the center detaching as a monopod for30.00 by sunpack at Ritz cameras.
Be careful not to overtighten, due to the plastic way ofattaching the tripod mount screw on the GVS, will come out and needs to be glued in, not once but a few tries. The screw depth are always short, and causes looseness, a rubber washer may help and raise thecam a lil higher as well. With other tripods the lcd doors will feel stuck as well.

I have one of these as my carry around / light duty tripod:

http://www.giottos.com/HD.htm

It's decent, it carries my D50, SB600 and zoom lens (total weight = 3-4 lbs) fairly well.
It's cheaply made, doesn't hold up if its windy, the head is hard to keep level, but for the price I paid for it, it's fine - a bit bigger than what you can put in "a small backpack" though.

edit reason added th pic
