Default New Aiptek PocketDV AHD H5 Pro

New features:
- Face tracking/detection
- 1 cm macro
- Take picture in video (PIV)
- 60fps(only in WVGA)
- HDMI out
- Built in upload software to Youtube
- iPod compatible mode(QVGA)
- Stereo mic +mic input
- Serial mode - Record TV and movies(AV-input is back for US model)
- 3.0" LCD in 16:9 Widescreen

Looking at the specs it's almost identical to the GVS/Z700. Could be a horizontal shaped GVS/Z700 with the above mentioned updates added. I've seen it listed for 179 euros on a german netshop but not available yet. Says will be in stock in june. Another thing is the name. In germany it's called Aiptek PocketDV AHD H5 Extreme but on the Aiptek Int. site, it's referred to as Aiptek PocketDV AHD H5 Pro. Same camera or different? Anyways link to specs below.

Could this be a competitor to DXG's DVH A80?

As a videographer I will say the following:
- Face tracking detection (useless feature. AF lock is more than plenty if one learns to use it properly)
- Take pic in video (why not screengrabs? and you are shooting video.. wait and then take a pic. If it was an unrepeatable moment, you wouldn't be fast enought to take pics anyway)
- 60fps on WVGA (GVS has 60fps on 720p)
- built in youtube upload (I prefer processed videos, with unwanted parts trimmed)
- IPod mode (again, I much rather downconvert 720P videos to other resolutions. Editing flexibility)
- mic input (same as GVS i believe)

Besides, is not true 1080, given the 4:3 1440x1080 anamorphic recording. Image quality is lost, and not every pixel captured at this resolution, represents every pixel that is displayed.

I do think the AV-in is for real cuz it's mentioned several times as "The Serial mode", and a description of it's usage.

1440x1080 or 1920x1080, doesn't really matter. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference on a HiDef tv anyway, unless you do a 100% crop comparison of the two resolutions on ur pc. Even then it's hard to tell the difference, because of the "low" video bitrate.

Ok, I have received the AHD H5 now, the version I have is the AHD H5 extreme (Model V5Z25S S/N: BTV90001247). It seems to differ a little bit from the version on the Aiptek website.

The extreme version has:
- no remote control (although there seems to be a remote-control receiver on the front of the cam)
- no AV-in, only AV-out for as far as I can tell/find ( :'( )

And there is a specifications update paper in the package saying:
+ Resolution now FullHD 1920x1080!!!!! (instead of 1440x1080!)

Congratulations on your new hybrid camera, thalx.

Too bad about the not included remote controller.

Please do post some full hd test clips. I'm anxious to see if full hd is worth it on these low end hd cameras.

Macro mode @ 1920x1080 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D0058r6ob8&hd=1

Remember, i'm not an expert

Also did some low-light shots... but it's really not that impressive to show because we all know what to expect from cheap cams with a single CMOS imaging sensor.

I think you'll have to place a raw footage to a direct downloadsite to satisfy some thanks
