I have seen the DVR 850W waterproof model at my local Walmart already. A pity it's still VGA recording. Had it been 720p at that $99 price I might have grabbed one!

I know these cameras crop up every now and then, but has anybody noticed that many of the cameras have a low spec, or under spec (such as 20fps a second frame rates).

I take it you are referring to the DVR 810HD and DVR 865HD? It does make you wonder. In the past I could understand why digital cameras used low frame rates since video was a nice bonus extra and it didn't need a lot of cpu power but now there is no excuse and it's just a way of cutting corners. I'd rather have VGA video @ 30fps than 720p video @ 20fps.

The other thing I always disliked is when digital camera manufacturers included a decent video mode, only to make it worthless by having no audio! I understand when it's a cheap noname brand but when they do it on the more expensive models it's just cutting corners. The days of silent movies should've ended when I stopped playing with Super 8 film in the 80's LOL Thankfully this practice seems to be much less common now.

Yes the Jazz 178 is one of the few cameras I have been very happy with. I love the picture quality for a cheap cam. If they could only produce a version with a higher bitrate to get rid of the artifacts it suffers. But then we are talking about a throwaway consumer cam so it's probably unlikely they'll improve on it, if indeed the company still manages to stay around.
