If the video below indeed came from the Zi8 then it is good video. It is stable, exposure is good (although Backlight compensation could have been better) and it is sharp. Reasonable color balance. And very steady. Not tripod mounted though - it does move around a little. Sound not bad for an internal mic. Interesting...

Based on the different lens widths at different resolutions, and noting that the lens is fixed (and is a good one at f2.8) I am guessing that the 61mm equiv lens width at 1080p means that they are only using part of the sensor for the 1920x1080 mode, and they are using the whole sensor, which I will guess is about 2800 x 1576, with pixel binning of some sort for 1280x720.

Which should make for quite a nice 'flip' camcorder

Yes it seems these devices are finally getting usable in the very places that people often want to buy them for in the first place.

Gizmodo has a 'review'

http://gizmodo.com/5328408/kodak-zi8...your-move-flip

It seems to be OK. Alright, it seems to be very good..

It uses the same batteries as my other small Kodak cams. About 1000maH, 3.6V

I always love the phrase "It's not going to replace a real camcorder". What is the definition of a 'real camcorder' ?! Surely anything that records acceptable or higher video, and this surely satisfies that. The video and audio on this device is easily as good as many cheap 'real camcorders'. Of course they may mean that it only has a fixed focus lens etc. but 'real camcorder' is still a poor phrase to use now.

I noticed they listed one negative about internal storage. Why do people get hung up on whether a device has any internal storage. When you have an SD slot it's totally irrelevant, especially considering how cheap SD cards are now.

In the following video, you will see the external mic is indeed stereo.

You can also clearly hear the stereo separation on that video.

It seems that in the first part of the video she has the mic the wrong way around, as the voices are coming out on the opposite side to where they are on the screen lol
