I can only answer one question. You can turn off the LCD display by plugging a cable into the composite-out socket. But the camera draws more power then... That's the only way I know of turning off the display.

Appears very similar lens, etc, to F200HD, which has dropped in price to $99 from this supplier

with a near dead battery I got 20 plus clips, two that on pinn or magix opens no sound. so I guess that was the hesitation I got when rendered?

Default New camera version with waterproof case

A new camera version is being sold on DealExtreme with modifications in the lens area. Not sure what they have done, I suspect that the macro/infinity lever has been replaced with a dummy, and rotation of the lens is used instead. Also a waterproof case is included.

I wonder what the "AF" means on the bottom right-hand corner. Surely not "Auto Focus"?

One seller is calling it the "F800"

Says "Automatic Focusing", Recycle, Record during charging, and you can see the microphone on the front (but no legend for lens):

"60fps". Hmmm.. Definitely a vastly different lens assembly

the orginal site shows a different cam all together a symbol and a button, while the micspot on the one you show is on the swival and will get hidden when turned corrected. Af , is auto focus, not for fixed lens.

one has the symbol, and even a hole in front so when the lens is 90 degree it cannot be hidden, the one you show has no hole in front and gets hidden .

I don't think that is a button, I think that is a picture of a moon, to designate moonlight, as against sunlight. Those symbols are associated with an index on the lens, which presumably is rotated from one to the other.

You are correct about the mic holes on the DealExtreme camera, however

My little F200HD has made some very important video for me, I will order the Dealextreme and hope it is an improvement over the F200. I am drawn primarily by the persistent reflection of a coated lens hole in all the dealextreme images. The lens quality, and image clarity, are very important to me. Any coated lens is a big advantage to the plastic sheet on the F200/F500. That, and the advantage of 150 minute batteries with which I normally operate mine 2 hours of continuous video is a magic number for me, while 2.5 hrs, which I get from the best batteries that I have, is enough to deal with just about every time I need it
