Too bad this isn't HD. The audio capabilities are impressive.

Yes for $249 I would've expected 720p at least but I guess you're paying for the mics.

I have moved on to using the Yamaha G2 for capturing audio.
http://digitalmedia.oreilly.com/2008...2g-review.html

It is pretty good, tiny, and runs for about 9 hours on one Eneloop AAA battery. The A/D converter and mic preamp are much lower noise than my Zoom H2. I set it for 12-15 manual PCM and then normalize the level in post-prod with the free automatic level processor described here:

My two Yamaha G2 cost me $149 each, but they are a really good way to make sure that audio capture is pristine

Hehehe! That's just crazy looking. It' sorta like a microphone with a built-in camera VGA resolution is not much today, but I guess this is their first model, of this type of hybrid. So they start low res. and then through the next model they add 720p and so on. Like I said before, its like a microphone with a built-in camera, so the emphasis is on audio and not video quality.

What I love about this model is there's a headphone jack that allows the user to ***monitor*** audio as it is being recorded!

Default Hands-on with the Zoom Q3 camcorder

cnet.com have a brief hands on review and will be doing a full one later:

It really does make you wonder who this is being aimed at.

Crappy video quality and no external mic jack? The Kodak Zi8 + external Sony mic beats it hands down. Or for around the same price, get a Canon FS200 with built-in stereo mic, external stereo mic jack, and headphone jack.

I initially thought this camcorder *did* feature an external microphone input.

BUT IT DOESN'T!!! AND THAT IS LAME!!!

That was a truly STUPID move by SAMSON.

My Zi8 from Kodak kicks this thing to the curb.
