Well, as a last day find, I hope those who were able to make a decision before the deadline of Oct 5th 12pm, when the sale ended. This sale was direct from Kodak Eastman, charging sales tax, and shipping, with a backorder.

Well Congradulations to those who taken the $130.01 plung. the lowest price ever.

I've been extremely busy at work.

But I just did a quick test with one of my Zi8s after updating the firmware.

The latest firmware is here:

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/servi...?pq-path=15372

It's now up to version 1.03.

My quick test revealed no problems with audio/video synchronization when using an external shotgun microphone... an AudioTechnica AT835b.

I used a www.studio1productions.com adapter to bridge the XLR cable coming out of the microphone with the camcorder's 1/8" external microphone input:

Perfect sync.

I also got the internal level setting adjusted in the camcorder's menu.

One thing... a person has to remember to re-adjust this external microphone level setting in the camcorder menu each time the camcorder is powered ON. The camcorder, in other words, does not "remember" the setting. It just goes back to the default.

I'm happy. I just did a recording that lasted almost an hour.

Audio/video synchronization was very good.

At first, it seemed there was a little bit of hiss on the recording even though I used my Audio-Technica AT835b high quality shotgun microphone.

But I now believe my microphone was just picking up the noise of the ceiling air vent blowing into the small room!

Yes, it's a very good deal.

Correction. There *is* a bit of hiss in the recording.

It's not bad, however. Perfectly acceptable for the type of classroom recordings I need.

I think it must be due to either:

1. self noise of the microphone

...or more likely...

2. the H.264 compression's rendering of ambient sound
