Default Samsung Hmx(UMX) U10 full review

Welcome to the Samsung Hmx (UMX) U10 full review.

HMX, UMX, are given names of Stores, for tracking info with the Support team.

Samsung releases their own version of a Hybrid, and a Solid feel to the Hybrid in a cast Aluminum body, a glass like lens ring, with a black metal finsih, very eligantly designed. For futher info of a Samsung product, please visit Samsung.com, here you'll get a poor mans review, no where else will you get a real persons opinion, with actual video, still, and answers, not even in a professional review do you get this information. so on with the Review:

We recieve our cams in many ways, purchase for someone, or your ownself. It is best to compare other camcorders, of simplicity-to- complex, and decide if this is for you.

The Samsung Hmx U10, is a step up to any hybrid, it has a touch pad, and very sensitive to the finger, that generates heat, so breathing hot air will not trigger the cam, or objects that are non human. The 2 inch tft screen is adaquate, and small, while the naviagtion section absorbs 50% plus, two door sides that cover the usb and connections, a simple green/red/ on/off button, strap and tripod on a solid cast Aluminum case, puts the finishing touches, away of the Samsung hmx U10.

So If you're looking to head out, and go out out in style, this may be what you're looking for. lets get right to the details of the cam.

Details: exterior

front.

The Front is all aluminum, with a glass like Ring around the cmos lense (25-26mm). that protrudges piggybacked to the tft screen. f=7.9mm f:3.0, and samsung lettering, and 10 megapixals lettering. 27mm wide angle slips over the lens.

sides

Side left, no. 1, your power on/off red/green/blue led light. no. 2 Reset button behind the top most part of door ac plug port on top side of rubbr banded door. no. 3 sd/mmc card slot external no internal memory (0kb/mb) Side right no. 4 av output, and usb port 2.0 interface. no. 5 plastic tripod side port, with 50% (squared screw) plastic screw, and set screw supported.. see pic top/bottom

back

The backs side no. 1 the 2 inc screen color tft. no. 2 simple control, video, playback still buttons 3. Rear Internal tri sterio Microphone( one of three mics) touch sensitive 5 way control, plus return set up, and repeat srensitve buttons. no. 5 camera strap

top / bottom

top/bottom Tri sterio Internal mic left and right are shown on the 90 degree angle. while the botton shows camera strap.

the tripod attachment has a half screw, and plastic. aftermarkettripod swival will be a nice fit without the attachment.

Accessorries from samsung are a pouch, sdhc card optional. No remote control.

Aftermarket products are no liit to what put's their mind to.

Overall of details, and conclusion.
I am quite impressed with this sleak looking Model Very nice looking. I am not happy with the type of button position or indentations set in the cam, there are none.
On/off is small, rec/play/still flush. no lights for the touchpad. I be shocked with excitement if Samsung would have thought tossing a colored light to the glass like ring, that would ruined video recording like the Kodak zi8. the screen is way small, and the font/icons a killer for old eyes. the Cam fits in a pocket and you feel like the lense is just missing a cap, I am sure aa wide angle cap will fit just fine. a geat job Samsung has done, the angle is not bad, but big hands will suffer what I can see in the near future skins, neopreem covers.

My rating for this device in detail 4 out of 5 Touchpad, power needs improvements.

next post the features, functions, and Display

the features, functions, and display
only 13-15 photos allowed.
Video review:

The features, and functions are displayed over at Samsung.com pdf

Icons of display may not be correctly shown, displayed at samsung, missleading.

The Display of a 2 inch screen is to be esired, a larger screen may been a solution.

The Icons shown are not a bad design, they show everything about the screen.
No macro, no EV setting, and I am sure there are others.
to go into further detail , or advance info please again view samsungs site, pdf file.

The features, and functions of the cam are shown in the above video, , the touchpad attimes will make it just a tad annoying,, a little paitience is needed
Over all, conclusion.

The Icons/font are to small for a 2 inch screen, the setting controls are remembered on most and are set nicely, not had to control and navigate.
Upset we do not have a selftimer, macro seting, EV setting but are substituted with other stuff, like slo mo, time lapse, 60 fps, etc, etc. certain features are either on/off, no betweens, like auto on off or 5 minute, where 1,3 could be added. Three mics and no gain control,.
never can we have enough manual controls, when this is a semi- auto camcorder.

Rate 3 out of 5, macro, self timer, font/icon and other. needs addition/improvement.

Stills shots:

The still shot of the cam has a number of settings, and a feature. 10 mb , 7.5m. 6m, 4m, 3m, and 2m, time lapse.

The Hybrid still shutter, has a two stage button, and when snapping a still, the cam, is delayed by a few sec's. no. 3 Jake has his head up the inside trunk, and the HMX snaps and captures him to late (see comparison review)(soon to come).

These still show the best of the Samsungs actions, and they look quite impressive, for just a quick shot.

1. 7.5m sun to right.

2. 7.5m angled down, sun to right

3. 7.5m sun ahead, jake in trunk., cam's delayed

4.

Conclusion

Conclusion:
The Samsung HMX-U10 hybrid. the size, weight, and design done nicely. the hybrid is indeed a newer model and has features, that other models do not.

" This is a Pc low budget Economy Hybrid Cam great for daytime shot outdoors Only".

I am not fully impressed with the low level, it has deffently failed filming certain scenerio's I placed it through.

The Orginal firmware the record/ still button was good, only for the record, while newer firmware was supposed to correct the Lagging shutter, it increased button the snap of the button.

The Start up time was 3.0 plus, and increased about a split second, still not a instant on cam.

The Daytime quality is Awesome, the stills are to be desired, if it is INTERPOLATED, or not?

The touchpad I do not desire, and becomes a great hassel in using the cam, especially the digital zoom, which basically does not streamline, it is a incrimental zoom, and firmware in the future will correct.

Imagine rain, or damp weather, the pad will be harder to use.

The Hybrid becomes a desposable one , due to a non-remoavable battery, a reset button is there if it ever crashs.

The hybrid doors are so close, when you need to press reset, you'll feel like tearing off the door, if you charge via ac plug, or usb you'll deffently tear the doors off. a Poor desing for discomfort.

The screen is 2 inchs and hard to view at given times, we have either Bright or normal, one control for this, or that. rather in between choices. Firmware is a software, not hardware, and hardware cannot be added with firmware.

There are no Macro settings, or low level EV setting, or a Mic gain control, you'll now lean to other cam's, if you are desiring external, or other additional features.

The Slo- Mo and time lapse are the catch, while SLow mo should have been in the same reso's and sound at normal, time lapse, and charger I think is the winner on any cam.

Overall, if you're after the Samsung, and looking to have a great catch on film I think twice before dishing out $180.00 usc, for limited filming.

I rate 3 out of 5 stars overall.

I recommend the Kodak ZI8, Aiptek Action HD GVS

Samsung if you're Monitoring Communication outside a company, goes a long way and I hope you have the chance to step outside the box, and join the real world, thank you.

the choice is yours .
just a added note*
support is super friendly when called in operatiing hours, they'll bevery kind to listen to your troubles, and transfer you to the correct people. the service repairs are cvc inc,
the Firmware is a upgrade only once you see a firmware file best to save it, do what you like with it old firmware are not saved at Samsung, I was told.

It taken 1;30 minutes to get a email address, to send my feedback to Samsung, and will be kept personal, I respect that of others. I will Move on to better things.
On that note , thank you very much for viewing the Samsung Hmx-U10

Con's

1. Poor low lighting
2. Sound: in a moving object, sound is vibrated. Sound is a touch loud.

4. Stills a lagg in shutter, snap.
5. start up over two secs.
5. slow motion 320x240 resolution, no sound
6. No macro 50 plus inch
7. settings limitations basic auto off, lc brightness scenes, sharpnes, etc....
