With the Kodak Zi8 firmware 1.03 and older, the EIS icon doesn't say anything on it, it just has a pictogram of the camera with ]]] next to it. With firmware 1.05 and newer, it now actually says "EIS" on the icon.

For their money they are very good. My first foray into Solid state was the original Aiptek IS-DV. Aiptek sure have their hiccups, but every so often they put out a very decent device. The Aiptek GVS is one of them. I take it everywhere I don't want to take my Sanyo HD1010. Considering it's half the price of what I paid for the Sanyo, the video is amazing if under saturated at times.

There are two types of enthusiast in here. Those looking for something to complement their prosumer items and those who just want an inexpensive device that more than does the job. I place myself in the latter category.

I would add "tripod" to that as well.

Last night I took mine to the grocery store and spent about 15 mins. walking around recording people. They never knew. They just thought I was holding a phone. The zi8 is stealthy.

Is the best quality mode 720/60 fps and EIS on when hand held?

Here's another question.

Gyroscopic Visual Stabilization of the GVS vs. EIS

Which one does a better job?

As ttoday I shot again the classiccars.com front displaying how the AIptek A-HD+ proforms well at night, the Kodak ZI8 has more a brighter hue, example Soft white flourecent, to a coolwhite flourecent light, that we purchase. TheKodak is a cam in it's own class.

the GVS electonic stab, vs, the Zi8. Aiptek has the better stabilization, reason
optical zoom, no wobble, when to digital zoom both the Kodak, and Aiptek will wobble.

Kodak does not have optical - yes it does 1x,sorry it is all digital zoom
So once you start to go to a zoom the stab kicks in harder.

I now keep kodaks off battery power wears it down.
