You have to rename the .FW file a number higher than 112. I renamed it zx3_113.fw and it worked beautifully.
Thank you for that valuable hint on how to downgrade the FW.

I also own the Zx3 which came with FW 1.12 -
but I don't see those red blotches on my sample
and I have done pretty extensive testing in very low light -
when panning around in some areas my Zx3 transitioned to record only black -
but on re-reviewing those footage I am not seeing any obvious (to me) problems.

I am not for a moment doubting this problem -
if someone would please kindly point me at some videos that could show this obviously -
perhaps I am just not looking for the right things?

Thanks

You are very welcome. I tested going back and forth between firmware 1.03 and 1.12 and can do so with the procedure I previously outlined. But each time you switch between firmware versions you have to rename the file one number higher than the previous upgrade/downgrade you performed. ie to switch back to FW version 1.12 I had to rename that file zx3_114.fw and then to go back to version 1.03 I had to rename that zx3_115.fw. Again do this at your own risk, I can only say that it works for me.

FW 1.01 is factory fimware Kodak allows you to purchase only the cam. And not own the firmware.

Fw 1.03 is offred only a limited timefrom Kodak, if you have it save it.

for newer firmware as well.

So all we have to do is rename fw flie name one sequential higher and wegot OLD firmware. YIPPIE

I figure for $84.99 if I don't like it or it doesn't work I'm not out a lot of $$$$. I received the camera in excellent physical condition and it functioned perfectly fine with firmware version 1.03. After reading the reviews of firmware 1.12 I reluctantly upgraded. What a mistake...Had the red blotches in low light the everyone was complaining about. Tried to downgrade to 1.03 but it wouldn't let me until I figured out the trick. You have to rename the .FW file a number higher than 112. I renamed it zx3_113.fw and it worked beautifully. When viewing the firmware version on the camera it clearly shows I have successfully downgraded to version 1.03. The Firmware doesnt show as 1.13 but 1.03 just as it should. Renaming the .FW file just tricks the camera into thinking it's an upgrade and allows it to accept the file. So for everyone wanting to downgrade it can be done and done very easily. I'm assuming you could also downgrade to 1.01 as well if anyone has that particular firmware file. I believe fishycomics posted a link earlier in this tread to the 1.03 firmware. I do not accept any responsibility for this procedure should it fail to work on your camera or cause damage. Proceed at your own risk. Good Luck.

You are correct in saying this fishycomics, I think people tend to forget this fact and are expecting them to perform like a more expensive camera. The reason I bought mine was for hiking, fishing, camping and kayaking. Plus the fact that it's waterproof is a plus for these activities.
