Default Aiptek AHD H12 LLS

Just got an email from Aiptek USA announcing a launch special of $199.99 on their new AHD H12 LLS camcorder. Specs on their website.

Anyone interested?

I got that same email as well. The way the email was worded, it implied only those who subscribed to their emails and/or were a former customer were getting this 'special deal' of $199 yet it's available for that price on amazon.com via their website to everyone. So much for exclusivity eh?

Apparently, it features an external microphone input, too:

Note that they do not say the external mic jack is stereo. I'd definitely make sure whether or not it is mono before considering it.

Also I still don't like them putting the internal mics on the back of the LCD. That means if you flip around the LCD to face you, then the mic is facing the opposite way. Or if you flip over the LCD so that it is visible but is flush against the camera, then the internal mic becomes useless because it's trapped between the LCD and the camera body.

In TV news, we used mono lapel/shotgun microphones to record dialogue.

Stereo microphones were used to capture ambient sound.

I just received Aiptek H12 LLS. I'm happy because next day after my order was sold out. It is what I was looking for. Quality of movies same like in the DXG A80V (amazing) plus 12x zoom (DXG 5X). No touch screen (even better, I don't like fingerprints on my screen), but the price: $209 with shipping I recommend this camcorder. Don't buy the Speed, or Insignia or other clones. From Aiptek we can expect support. I sent already couple emails to Speed and DXG. No answer. Later I will put some RAW samples at megauploads.
I just check Aiptek website. It is again available for $199 !

Default Sample video from Aiptek AHD H12 LLS

I downloaded a raw 1920x1080i 60 FPS file from Vimeo and played on my Western Digital media player and the quality is pretty awesome as far as video goes. For $199 and this kind of quality, that's a pretty good deal, rivals my Sanyo FH1 which was $150 more. Aiptek keeps getting better, (I've had the GVS which I was plenty satisfied with). I'm sure stills are more than decent, even it's kept at the same quality as the GVS (Specs however say 10MP which is double GVS so should be better). $199 was what I paid for the GVS when it first came out, this seems to be a clear upgrade at the same price 1 yr later. Had I not purchased the Sanyo FH1 I'd definitely get this one. Also seems to have slow motion video which my Sanyo also does which is kind of cool even though resolution isn't great but a nice extra.
