Default Aiptek Z700 Extreme, how to use Nightshot?

Hi all, this is a brilliant forum, I've read posts for a while

I just received today my new Aiptek Z700 Extreme (I'm in London by the way)

One of the reasons I bought this camera was it's advertised "Nightshot" mode Which I undertood it was a kind of Night Vision. Is that correct?

I believe I have seen youtube clips of its sister camera "GVS" in what it seemed to be some kind of Night Vision Mode

Such as these
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa-xXcwVges

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iymY0...eature=related

Well I've read the manual and it says nothing about how tu use it

The camera menu shows Night shot "off" or Nightshot "Auto" as the only choices, there is no setting to just change it to Nightshot permanently (to use as a nightshot in a Sony cam.

I try recording from a place with light to a place with no light (hoping to experience an auto change to Night vision but all I get is plain darkess.

Was I wrong to expect Night vision in my camera?
Do any of you have it working? If so How do you do it?

Thank you all in advance

Welcome Aboard Cesarillo...

Congrads on your New Cam from AIptek, the Nightshot Mode of the GVS:

Turn cam on. Go to Menu, scroll up/down to see Nightshot and on the GVS it says On or Off

The Extreme you said Auto or Off?

The Aiptek series does not do well in extreme low level rooms. If a rainy day overcast, no light in room. You can read a paper but may struggle at times.

Turning on Nightshot Mode will open the Shutter slow down the shutter, causing a slo mo or blur. allowing the Aiptek to brighten up the shot, some older models became purple, and now a lil bronze.

the video will become brighter, but not like the Sony Night vision.

Older models like the Aiptek Ahd and AHD plus have the same but a working EV and over the gvs.

the GVS you have EV settings -02-+2 they should be used to see if you can get a difference.

the Nightshot Mode will work at times correctly, but I find it more and more not doing its job in Full with the Ev setting. The video you pointed out was with the EV setting and that did not a thing and even nightshot mode.

I find again a rainy day using Nightshot mode on a tripod to capture the best of the cam.

Thank you

I'm really unhappy with the camera's low light performance and even more with the fact that I cannot just select Nightshot mode alone, in auto it seems to do nothing, I can't percieve it.

I shot some footage to test in indoor lighting and it looks awful, I'm trying to create a video to upload on Vimeo, but it's taking forever to render, I'll update this topic with it once I get it uploaded.

I read there are different drivers that the camera can use, do you think I could switch to a nother firmware to improve the quality or at least gain control of the nightshot???

Also when using the external mic the camera creates clicking sounds, even with the mic switched off, do you guys get that too??? any trick to fix it???

Thank you

PS:

This is the gear I used on my test, I love the led lamp, is cheap effective and it sticks on with a magnet (to the metal spatula I atached to the frame

you have the newer GVS , the flash says it all. and that I do not like as well.

you are runningfw 2802 as that iswhat most of the newer one has.. you can update to 2901 or go down. but it will not improve the proformance of nightshot mode.

Low light , like I said will do fair. do not expect midnight in a room with no windows, or lights to show perfect daytime video LOL

in menu/ nightshot Mode /

On or OFF no Auto, unless I am missing something

This is what it shows uo in my menu,

I just uploaded my test in Vimeo,

http://vimeo.com/11339974

You can clearly hear the clicking noises that the camera produces in the second clip, where I switched off the microphone, so the problem it's not the actual mic, do you guys get the same problem???

I would love to find a way to get rid of the clicks and select Nightshot manually
