The new Sanyo competitor, the VPC-PD2...

- lacks an external microphone input.

- also lacks the ability to be controlled by a remote control.

On the other hand...

- it features a 3x *optical* zoom

- it supports Apple's iFrame easy-edit format

- it supports optional Eye-Fi cards and wireless uploading

Sanyo appears to be "betting" that consumers won't be lured by the TOUCH SCREEN functionality of the JVC and Kodak models. The Sanyo features physical buttons.

The Kodak PLAYTOUCH also features the in-camera editing feature:

Each of these models offers something different.

I think the big, interesting test will be side-by-side video quality comparisons.

As we are already previous owners , I would trade in with Kodak for an upgrade, only if they offer a fair deal, not 10% of the price I paid.

Those who never owned any of the Kodak series, are going to now have Three through Six choices. and I am sure no matter which one they chose.
Will do just fine

I Lean to the Kodak Zi8 optimum use in any situation given.

No matter how Loud the scene the cam will be a work of Art.

There are no needs to have ll the extras that a pc can do and if space is greatly needed then its a clear choice the Playtouch I preferre notto edit on a cam that the battery will deplete in no time, but hey there was plenty of room for a solar cell, todays time go green.

the actual interior editor does it do each file, seperately, and join each seperate file, the paused video of AIptek is the better if asked of editing.

the xacti looks way more a professional HD cam and that would be a better choice, unsure if the stereo mic work out as the palm of the hands index finger would interfere, in blocking the sound

Actually I think the placing of the stereo mics might be well placed on the Sanyo. Using my Cellphone as a test I find my fingers would naturally rest below the mics and it has to otherwise you'd obscure the lens anyway.

The stereo separation should be much better than on their pistol grip ones since the mics are much further separated and point in the direction of human ears.

He, he, I thought it would be new model shortly, so I resisted buying the playsport, but this is a little disappointing. 50/60 frames per second fullHD and 8mp+, or 3D, would have been in line, at least it is not a stripped down version of the playsport.

I wonder if there will be any other new models? A water proof version with all the macro and external mic features would be welcome.

Can you properly make a new clip from clipping an existing clip, then join it together to another clip?

Anyway, guys, I have my Sanyo GC20.(a $100 discount while on holiday) I can put a few features of the Kodak into perspective:

The 10mp does help the noise compared to past 5mp, it is not so much the reduction in noise at lower resolutions, but that the noise looks a lot better compared to the 5mp Kodak zi8, because it averages out the noise below the pixels. In low light, at first it does not really appear much better than my zi6 (yes, $69 before the Sanyo was discounted) but fiddling around with the low light features in the extensive menus I got it better (Kodaks do this automatically). I think it maybe possibly as good as the Kodak Playsport in low light. I suspect that the playsport lowers resolution to increase light gathering ability, and one of the modes in the Sanyo also does this, if so it mgith match it.

The wider angle of the Sanyo and new Kodak helps a lot, unless you want to keep further away from the lion, then the optical/digital zoom comes in handy. It also collects more light due to being closer and concentrating the light on a smaller part of the sensor, which also means that it might be able to handle less bright light. But with advancements in technology, one sensors ability might naturally be more to start with compared to previous versions.

On camera editing is handy, but depends on how well/easy and comprehensive it is (yes some minor transitional effects, Title/subtext editing, and dubbing/audio effects would be good).

Handling of the vertical and pistol grip camera formats is fiddly in different ways. Trying to press controls on the vertical, or the buttons on the pistol grip, produced movement.

As stated before remotes are really useful, and should be standard. In comparison, my upmarket but cheaply endowed $349 Sanyo, has no wrist band, no HDMI cable, a laughingly short USB cable that all came standard with the $69 discounted zx1. To get a proper manual to tell you what the menu features do you are supposed to log on line. I actually have to buy a Sanyo TV and use it's remote through the HDMI hookup to get a remote for the Sanyo, boo, hiss. Good on you Kodak, but you really need to include the remotes, most stores around here do not stock the accessories, I did not see one remote on my travels.

In a warm climate, some of these touch pads work too well.

As a personal note, my local member is busy tonight deciding on the new Prime Minister.
