I tested the PlayTouch with the $5 Hong Kong imitation Sony microphone and it worked fine, but when I unplugged the mic while recording, the audio muted instead of reverting to the built-in mic. A bug in the firmware, maybe?

I tried plugging in the external mic while recording, but I noticed that it didn't pop up the "Mic or earphones?" question on the screen, so I figured it wouldn't work, and would just keep recording from the built-in mic. (Unfortunately, I didn't save the video file to prove if this theory is right.)

the theory is right. i have tried and it does mute. you cant take the mic out while recording or put it in like you can with the zi8. which is a bummer. maybe they could change it in a new firmware.

Something the engineer overlooked, wil cost them time, because they already got paid. lol

Firmware fix it will be.

I still lean to the Zi8
