Default New "Flip style" pocket camcorders 2010 (Kodak's competition)

Various "Flip style" pocket camcorders competing with Kodak's lineup. If you're going to use an external microphone, there isn't much choice but to choose Kodak's Zi8 or Creative's Vado HD 3rd Gen. These two are the only ones with mic-input as of now(that I know of).

Panasonic HM-TA1

features:
- Full HD
- LED light
- iFrame recording option for mac users.
- Webcam functionality

Sanyo VPC-PD2 (not available yet)

features:
- Full HD
- 3x Optical Zoom Photo
- Built-In Stereo Microphone with Built-In Speaker
- High Speed Sequential Shooting Mode
- Xenon flash

overview, specs:

Other pocket camcorders for consideration:
JVC Picsio GC-FM1
Sony Webbie MHS-PM1
Sony Bloggie MHS-PM5
Samsung HMX-U10
Samsung HMX-U20
Creative Vado HD 2nd & 3rd gen
Flip Ultra HD
Various taiwanese/chinese brands.

For me the most interesting "Flip style" pocket camcorder's are Kodak's Zi10, Samsung's E10 and Sanyo's PD2.

I looked at the Sanyo VPC-PD2, but I could not find any mention of an external microphone input.

So -- unless I missed it -- it appears Sanyo is attempting to sell this camcorder on the basis of the optical zoom.

I donated my two Sanyo VPC-CG6 camcorders to my university for use in classrooms.

Sadly, their video is fine, but their built-in microphone audio is just terrible... too much hiss and almost no range... limited to about three (3) feet. Almost useless for classroom-type work.

As a result of this massive oversight by Sanyo, I've been forced to loan my two Kodak Zi8s to my employer to make our recordings work because the Kodak Zi8s *do* have external microphone inputs and we can clip a microphone on each student that we place in interview situations.

Sanyo seems bent on making the consumer spend more than $400 to get a model with an external microphone input.

I was hoping the VPC-PD2 might be a change, but... I'm still searching for the external microphone input.

If I were going to buy another Sanyo, I'd go with the VPC-HD2000ABK model because it features an external microphone input. Unfortunately, it's also very expensive.

the jvcs batter life is 80 minutes

that sanyo is interesting, but why wouldnt someone get a digital camera if they want optical zoom and flash?

flip can not change a thing on their cams and sell them just buy their name

I think the Kodak series of hte camera would be my better choice over a camcorder style. but imagine they intergrated a mic in there.

The JVC Picsio cameras looks great. Waterproof seems to be another trend in pocket camcorders. The JVC Picsio GC-FM2 with touchscreen looks like a worthy contender in the pocket camcorder market, if it hasn't inherited the audio issues of the previous model(GC-FM1).
