Default With ext. mic, record piano music video in low light house

I'm looking for something like the flip and was wondering exactly which small videocam I should get. Looking to spend 100 to 400 dollars, good in low light house, external microphone jack so as to not get unwanted noises from cam. Videos will be about 5 minutes long. Most important will be audio recording. The videos are to try and sell original music transcripts. Would like HD video. I'll be at piano. Camera will be behind and beside me shooting my hands playing the keys. I'll be posting the videos to YouTube and similar music video sites.

Welcome aboard Hopikachinastar......
On youtube you may want to check out and ask Chrisc74, he is into Music and may be able to Enlighten you on this subject, he did this with the guitar, and as well the electronic piano if not ask him and he'll do a sample or direct you .

As for ext mic ports and cams you may like to check out the kodak zi8 or playtouch, they are a stereo port, and Aiptek Action HDMI te yare a mono jack port.

These are digital cams not optical cams.

My suggestions:

1. Flip UltraHD **8GB** ($179) model:

My thoughts: This has the FLIPPORT connector...

...which allows for attachment of external microphones and other accessories... NOT ALL FLIP CAMCORDERS HAVE THIS PORT YET...

a. Mikey by Blue Microphones

b. freedomMIC wireless microphone

2. Worth looking at:

Beware... early reviews suggest the ZOOM Q3HD's video quality isn't very good. Also, I tested a ZOOM audio recorder and was not happy with its performance.

3. Buy any good 720p/1080p Kodak hybrid and pair it with an Olympus audio recorder such as this WS-700M:

Use a clapboard to establish a sync point and then sync in Magix software:

The Magix software has incredible audio tools for synchronization of audio and video.

Another possible option:

APPLE's newest iPod TOUCH model, which features a 720p video camera:

At some point, there will be external microphones available for this.

At present, however, one must be *extremely* careful because many external microphones that were compatible with previous versions of the iPod Touch are *not* compatible with this newest model. So shop with caution.

Thank you Private Idaho and fishycomics! Those are excellent suggestions. I investigated each one. The Zoom has very bad video reviews. I've got a Zoom hand held audio recorder and couldn't be happier so I know Zoom knows how to make good audio but video is new for them. I read the new Flip is not so hot in taking videos on Amazon and am steering away from that. The iPod I'm interested in and will greatly consider if my first choice doesn't go over well. For that matter I'll be re-investigating the Flip too if my choice fails. However, I'm looking for something I can attach a professional external microphone to, if I must, albeit with converters. I'm pretty sure I'm going with fishycomics suggestion of the Kodak zi8. Samples of fishycomics zi8's videos and external microphones looks and sounds like an old shoe. Greatly appreciate your input. They were each one a great suggestion. I researched and learned quite a bit.

I'd be careful not to take those negative reviews about the FLIP too seriously because...

http://www.amazon.com/Flip-UltraHD-V...=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

...as you can see... the *majority* of those who rated/reviewed the product gave it an average of four (4) stars. Yes, always check out the possibility that the negative reviewers might have had some legitimate complaints. But it's best not to jump to any firm conclusions.

Yes, the Kodak Zi8 is an *EXCELLENT* pocket camcorder. I think the external microphone input recordings -- using external microphones -- are still a bit too noisy. Other than that, the camcorder's video is quite amazing for such a small device.

I've also noted inconsistent photo quality and I've recently done some more testing and these are my conclusions.

1. This camera lacks a FLASH; so it's not going to produce great photos in low light conditions. That's pretty normal/common for small hybrids.

2. This camera loves a tripod; tripod shots in daylight almost *always* are great.

3. MACRO mode photos require a tripod *and* several inches of distance from the subject; you can't get too close or it will be blurry.

If you understand these basics, this pocket camcorder will satisfy.

Flip

The Flip Is like any other Pc low Budget cam, the Flip as a tendency to Blur, be out of Focus and like all Internal driven devices render useless when battery and or memory are being used to a status. Drop it once you may be fine, drop it twice .......... Am I thinking micro hd drives,. or am I thinking in general.

These are a pc Low Budget cams............

Creative vado, Rca Pure digital etc etc..
