Having trouble contacting people doing the open source camera software on the other forum. If anybody that goes there (a couple do) would like to contact Jose Dan etc and the technical discussion one, and let them know they can pm me about running it under a linux on Android Tablet or dongle, with USB 3, Thunderbolt, Wigig external camera in future (or internal, as they are going 4k native). I'm thinking of going over to the Apertus team, and raising the subject, but they are focused on their own 4k camera product.

Hmm, I found a site that picks up board chatter on topics, on the Ambarella topic page, saw an interesting looking post and here I am, my own post Lol!

Anyway, chatter is a new 4k m43 camera above the Panasonic Gh3. Samsung is to announce a galaxy S5 with 4k camera video on a bigger faster than snapdragon 800 processor in the Note 3, in Jan/Feb, but maybe there are other movie coming too.

Snapdragon 800 processors support 4k cameras, but that doesn't mean a phone or tablet with it will or is able to be made to do it.

Ambarella, in a snippet at a European event looked more interested in gopro than us in hybrids. They supply gopro, for now. I've read that they are rumored to be checking out phone technology, which would mean chipsets like the snapdragon 800, but ambarella was also working in this field.

We practically gave this company legs, now they are walking somewhere else. First Sanyo then Kodak, now this. The truth is maybe they can't raise enough orders to do large enough runs to effectively lower costs, with all the manufacturers sticking to fullhd parts in the declined market. However, if gopro is going to be delayed in trying to sort out mobile parts, then they would have been good to do a finale gopro 4kp30 model in the meantime.

OK where are we at, descent new 4k cameras. Seiki 39 inch 4k TV now $400, and $699 or so 4k monitors.

Cameras, shortly Panasonic is going to release a GH 4 43rds camera, or two. It is confusing early reports sound different from the CES reports. One is under $3000, one cheaper, one fixed lens/non GH 3 hybrid video sounding form factor, one GH3 like at ces. The pick of the bunch for uhd p30 maybe.

Sony has released a $2000 pocket camcorder. Still 4kp30. Compact.

http://nofilmschool.com/2014/01/sony...ov-action-cam/

JVC has shown a prototype/demo of their 4k camera which currently is just a current PX100 with upgraded firmware outputting live to TV. Interesting. Price and detail unknown, but perfect target for $799-$999 4kp50/60 (10 bit, 4:2:2 200mb/s+ just wishful thinking guys). I like the feel of this one, I wish it had all those feature and s16 or at least 1/2 inch sensor, but as I said, I wish. Availability TBA.

Default Panasonic 4k wearable camera:

The existing fullhd model is $199. Ambarella is supplying wearable tech for Google wearable cameras. Maybe this is coming because of chip making design shrinkage. Which means that handhelds might be coming latter.

I don't know if I mentioned this before, but I must confess, I took the wrong power consumption value of the existing ambarella 4k chipset, which would mean it is more suitable for a camcorder than the smaller cameras here, requiring a shrink or redesign to get it small enough with a descent data rate.

Hmm, I can see a use for this, I might buy one. If only there was a twin cam 3D 4k version. Panasonic?

Is Sanyo still a member on the forums?

BTW. the size of that case is sort of right for an ambarella 4k.

Given Panasonic's track record with image quality, Wayne I should think that this one will be quite outstanding.

And I suspect so will the price! . Whatever, thanks for the info.

Scoot.

Ha, ha, Donald, thanks, you beat me to it. I was going to wait until the release later today. That add on attachment is rather bulky, couldn't they fit most of that in the camera. Still, if they can offer different versions (I don't need the pro video serial link, but do need higher data rate and that 96 fps 4k, display port/thunderbolt 2/hdmi2a (at least, the others can record 96fps live), 12 bit, extra battery or ssd, in a smaller unit with handle attachments They could offer all this in the same unit (stuffing extra battery etc in the handles even)). Call it pro video attachment 2.

Anyway, notice the different attachments under it in the pictures. All seems a bit bulky to me.

Handles could also have controls, so a sort of balanced and weighted, l__l shipped cradle setup, like they are doing for filming cases for Tablets.

Anyway, the Panasonic POV action camera above is more in our league.

Here is another:
