I am new to the forum and am interested in any advice you can offersince you folks obviously know a lot about hybrid cameras.

I am lookng for a dual purpose hybrid that records to SD. No moving disk or tape. It must record external video/audio from a bullet camera/mic in at least 640x480with 30 fps. I need to record at least 40 minutes at this resolution.

When I am not using this with the bullet cam I would like as good a quality still and camcorder function as possible.

Any suggestions and experiences are appreciated.

You could check the Hybrid List topic, but I think the Samsung Miniket Sports model is one of the very few hybrids that has a bullet cam.

Any of the Digilife hybrids with a video-in port can use an external bullet cam, but you have to deal with power and control issues.

There's also the integrated helmet cams, such as the Tony Hawk and ATC-2000.

I've just added a bunch of cameras:

Aiptek Z200 Pro

Isonic AV50

SVP
HDDV-1800
HDDV-2400
HDDV-2800
HDDV-8600
HDDV-1007
MP-580

Ranger Genius
DV 600
DV 703
DV 704
DV 800

G-Shot DV1110

Pretec DV-6403E

Advanced Image Technology DV-6610

DXG DVC-505

HanShing HS-DV589A

HandStar HS-DV589A

Samsung SC-X210WL

New models are coming out so fast it's become impossible to determine which are clones, and clones of what. Or what has only been announced and what's actually for sale. Let alone keep the pricing meaningful and current.

I've also ordered an ATC-2000. Looks like it's a big step up from the ATC-1000, and the big attraction is that it will work 10' underwater. Doesn't take stills like the 1000 did, though.

Shouldn't these have the same specs?

Didn't see the Aiptek MZ DV, which is the US version of the Z200 Pro

Thanks, I really appreciate the corrections as it gets harder to keep track of all the models and their features. I'll check into these hybrids and correct them when I'm sure I have the info straight.

It's not 100% clear to me they are identical, or if the differences are just errors in the spec lists. Various sites list the ZoomDV's maximum video resolution at 720x480/20 or 640x480/30. Some refer to the aspect ratio as a "setting", suggesting it is for playback only. The Aiptek website has a similar reference for the DV Z100 Pro. I can't find a reference anywhere about whether the ZoomDV has autofocus. I'll assume it does. Can anyone point me to conclusive references for these models?

Zoom DV (by observation)

Auto-focus: Yes.

Max Video: VGA (640X480) 30 fps is the highest on mine. Maybe they made a firmware change to get D1 resolution.

16:9/4:3 Pressing OK button changes recording mode between normal and wide screen. The LCD shows black bandsacross top and bottom in wide screen modeThe camera achives widescreen by reducing vertical resolution (640X352).

Digilife DDV-6000

This new camera on Digilife Global website appears to a clone of my SVP HDDV-8600. The camera doesn't appear to be available in the USA yet.

You posted that between the time I noticed the DDV-6000 and when I could post. I don't see what the strategy is here. Why is Digilife announcing yet another camera that's not in production, and doesn't seem to add anything to present offerings?

I also doubt they have the size correct. It's more than odd that despite a rather different shape, it's exactly the same size as the 950. Could be they've fallen victim to the same thing I do, which is to copy and edit spec lines from existing cameras, and neglect to change all the numbers.

I wanna see the 5300 become reality.

I added a few hybrids today, from the early days (2003). Most of these were reviewed on Steve's digicam area when they came out.

Concord DD-2020

Samsung ITCAM-5, ITCAM-7, ITCAM-9

Pretec DV4200
