Alright, I ordered this puppy from shopathome.com for $159.99. Ordered on a Monday, December 26at 10:00 PM, shipped to my door today December 29. That's insanely fast if you ask me. It came with the charger, the 850mAh battery, the USB/AV out cable, the AV in cable, the earphones, a AWESOME remote, and last, but not least, PHOTO PAPER. Great deal if you ask me. I began my little adventure by opening the ...slightly ripped plastic case. No worries as it made the grabbing of the MPVR that much quicker! :-) Whipped it all out, started the battery charging (only 5 more hours--gotta let that trickle charge fill the battery to maximum capacity for approximately 6-7 hours). Now I'm installing the Software and I'm about to hook it up to my PC.

About the camera itself, VERY good quality materials. It looks extremely curvaceous andwas extremely elegantly designed. I look at the thing in awe, thinking I should have spent $500+. It really is the bargain of the century. The screen is SOOOOOO much bigger than my ancient, rectangular bodied DV 4500 and I can't WAIT to see what it looks like. I'm so darn (not the word I chose...OBVIOUSLY :rollexcited, I think I might just die (hyperventilating of course):G. The lense itself is a thing of beauty. Again, I look at it and it just SCREAMS quality (it's also about 2x bigger than my 4500). Well, that's all for now, I'll be back in a few days (or ...4 hours55 minutes)to report on the quality of the video/pics and all the cool features.

My ONE and ONLY complaint so far you ask? The weight. The thing is just too darn light! :-) Oh and I can't balance it on it's bottom like I can with the DV 4500...but who the heck cares right ? Especially since I have the excellent tripod I got with my 4500! And it fits the MPVR like a glove...just like my cheap bottom (:-)3 letter word...starts with an a..)$5 Samsonite Weatherproof case (which I actually got for my 4500 but it wasn't a nice fit).

Now onto the REMOTE! First, I'll list the features:

7 Meter (21 feet) range

LOL ok that's about it...now onto the buttons

Top left--Video record

Top right--Camera record

Right below the video and camera record buttons--Zoom in, up arrow, zoom out (left to right)

Below that line of buttons is the left arrow, ok button and right arrow button.

Below that line, Mode, Down arrow and Menu

One more line below that Rewind, play, Fast Forward

It's about the size of 2 lighters side by side. Very cool design and the buttons all feel great when pressed. I have a feeling this is going to blow me away when I begin to mess with it.

And finally, the Photo paper...well yea it's photo paper, 50 sheets, looks ...like photo paper. Not much to say.

As you can probably tell (unless you are mentally retarded/comatose/just plain dumb:-)) I LOVE THIS CAMERA,EVEN BEFORE I'VE TURNED IT ON!!!

Stay tuned to your local ME station for more information...be back in a bit....yea

And now the moment you've all been waiting for, the COOL rating (out of 5 of course)

UPDATE!!!!

Alright I finally attached the camera via USB cable to my PC, and when I opened the LCD I SAW THEOPENING ANIMATIONAND a brief 1 second clip of my room. Let me just say this right now. Low light with this camera is PHENOMENAL. I had my light off, my windowshadeclosed (its a CLOUDY DAY as well) and guess what Isawfor that brief second? MY ROOM!!! It was extremely dark, BUT I COULDMake out my lamp and a poster. The DV 4500...well I tried the same test and guess what I saw? A black BLACK black (Extremely small 1.5inch POS :-)) LCD screen. No picture, no color, NOTHING. Next test. I pointed it towards my door with the hall light OFF. The 4500 gave me a reddish fuzzy color, couldn't adjust to the light (normally I have to hold the lens an inch from light for a few seconds to adjust). The MPVR, however, gave crystal clear picture, I swear I thought I was looking at some DVD handicam or something. I put my little brother in front of the door for the next test. DV 4500, same with a black outline of him. With the MPVR, I COULD ACTUALLY SEE HIS FACE AND CLOTHING, not perfectly, but good enough for me. Backround light was WHITE, not reddish, NO PIXELATION, NO REDDISH GLOW, JUST CRYSTAL PICTURE! I am amazed. Even though it's only a split second :O. Next test, turned ON the light HALFWAY. Guess what? FREAKING BEAUTIFUL PICTURE on the MPVR, I can actually see my room, in fairly dim lighting. DV 4500? Not a chance in "heck" of making out the lamp or the poster behind it or ANY Surroundings. All I see is the light coming out lighting up about a quarter of the poster with the 4500. TERRIBLE quality.

That's all for now, be back in 2 hours 23 minutes withMUCH more...:-)

Oh and fishy, my tripod holds my MPVR perfectly WITH the LCD screen open in EVERY position! And that flash, guess what the DV4500 looks like in no light? NO LIGHT, pitch black. My black lab is sitting 5 feet from me in PITCH BLACK. I snap a shot with flash. Guess what the pic looked like? That's right, PITCH BLACK with some weird blue eye on his eyes. Can't see the surroundings, can't see the dog even. I'm sure that's all about to change.

UPDATE!!! Numero DOS!!!!

Very hungry, so cold...must eat...can't survive much longer....30 degrees....10 degree wind chill...must...make it....back...to...my...door..............(in case you didn't get it, I just got the mail . Sadly, no $5 backup li-ion 830mAh battery for me, tomorrow then).

Update ...NUMERO TOIS!...wait...spanish..french..meh :-) (4 hours of owning the single greatest camera in the history of history)

Some very very very bad news. I just lost a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!

LOL but seriously, I just converted a small 20MB .wmv file using the media converter software supplied with the camera and attempted to load it onto my 60x 1gig card. Now before I say this I must also say, I loaded about 20 MP3's on there in around 1 minute (weird it sort of hung on a few mp3s...never happened on my 4500). So MP3 copying to MPVR is great. I also took a video clip from my 4500 and copied itto the card. It was around 50MB and copied in just under 30 seconds. NOW back to the 20MB .wmv file. I load it on and the little XP copying screen shows up. 32 MINUTES. Something is DEFINATELY wrong, but I don't know what. Maybe it was because I accidentally turned it off while copying a file. But then it would have corrupted the SD card and I'd be screwed...but I'm not. The file plays fine on XP. I gave up on the .wmv, thinking it was the format. So I convert a .avi to MPEG-4 .asf format and this time it's a bigger file, at 100MB. 100 MINUTES:O. Anyone encounter this little problem, and is there a known fix??? Not such a big deal really, but I'd like to know.

Mini update...like 5 minutes later. I loaded a 4MB .wmv-->MPEG4 .asf file onto the card, in around 10 minutes. And it plays fine...so it's not the card or the camera...must be the software. Or maybe it's my 2.5ghz 512MB 9600 Pro PC.............:-)

On a side note, IT'S GONE GREEN! That means it's now at 80% capacity...only an hour or two left until it reaches 100%!!!

UPDATE!!!! First one in a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time. STILL don't have my MPVR ...i'm beginning to think shopathometv.com doesn't like me...although they DID put the MPVR back up on their site after my email (which asked why they had taken down the MPVR)....hmmm.. Anyways, I have a pic I thought I'd put up, it's new years morning RIGHT as the sun is starting to emerge. NO NIGHT MODE here. Low light really, not much except the rays of the sun. Not the BEST picquality wise, especially when you get up close (strange horizontal lines all over), but the COLORS, match EXACTLY to what I was seeing, even picked upthe faint purple tones in the clouds, really quite amazing.

3Face.

Hip Hip Hurrah.

you are very pleased, and i am too.

1. The camera will stand up by itselfwith the screen closed , but once opened. tower of Piza it'll flop over.

2. with the tripod with it closed, the screen cannot be opened Lol two flaws right there.

Do me one simple favour?

Where sunglasses when you use the flash............

looking foward to yor comments :|

UPDATE!!!!! ...what is it like 8 now :? :?O:roll::-):-):|

FINALLY got the battery charged, I let it sit for 2 full hours after the charger went green. The LCD screen on this puppy is freaking ...what's the word...awesomeleyamazinglystupendously COOOL! I love it! So bright with vibrant colors and good brightness/ contrast AND it has settings to change the brightness! So I started the day by filming my room at around 2:30. I filmed and filmed and filmed, snapped a few flash photos, filmed filmed filmed, flash photos, zooming in and out throughout with no stabilizer or night mode on. I did this for about 2 hours. Afterwards I decided to relax with some MP3s. I have about 50 on this 1gig card...AND roughly45 minutes of QVGA(low quality...yet NOT low quality :O)video, about75 FLASH photos. Haven't tested the DVR capability yet. Oh and I'm STILL listening to those MP3s I told you about. Ever since 4:20 (as of this update, it is 5:30). Screen hasn't gone off once. So let me sum that up for you. 2 hours of video/pics (OUTSTANDING by the way, truly breathtaking how much detail is put into each and every 3MP pic) and the video truly excels in low light situations. I was amazed at how bright the picture remained even when the only light in a 300 square foot room was a lamp, some white xmas lights and xmas tree lights. But now I'm getting off track. That's 2 hours of beatiful video/pics with flash, no stabilizer, no night mode and 1 FULL hour of MP3 listening at roughly half volume. The battery is just now getting into the 1 bar RED zone which means it's probably about to shut off. But WOW, so far, this is the best darn camera at the best darn price with the best darn quality you will EVER find. EVER! :-):-):-) Or at least until the next gen of hybrids...

I also tested the night mode...not TOO impressed with it. It did manage to magnify the light in a rather dark room though. But when I walked outside, guess what? Pitch PURPLE. All I could see was purple...and some lights WAAAAY off in the distance. But I suppose it wasn't meant for pitch black nighttime filming. The photo frames are cool, as is the 2 in one mode. Very handy to not have to go into software on the PC to change that.

STILL GOING, I'm at the 3 hour mark, with this LCD STILL on, I'm amazed it's lasted so long, especially coming from that POS DV4500 with it's ~1 hourLCD on time. Speaking of DV4500, EVERY SINGLE INDOOR VIDEO I SHOT TODAY would not be possible on it, unless you like stairing at black and..maybe one or two lights. The pictures would have been POS in the low light. But not with my precious. Yes, it is now, officialy, my precious.

I have to change the COOL rating now. It's stillon a scaleof 1-5.

:c ool:

Oh and feel free to ask any questions, I'll be happy to answer them

Truly a sad sad moment. The battery....has gone dead

LOL but let's see now...total time with LCD on....a whopping 3 hours and 20 minutes!!! :O:O:O:O

I think I'm in love.

UPDATE NUMERO SEISENTE Y NUEVE!!!

Yea well the thing charged in 4 hours...EXACTLY, I timed it. Did some more filming, flashing, definately getting better at taking smooth non blurred pics (not TOO hard really). FINALLY figured out how to do the DVR too. You don't plug it into the TV like the instructions say, but to the ACTUAL DEVICE you want to record from. So I plugged it into my DirectTV satellite reciever in QVGA mode and it actually caught the very borders my tiny 19inch TV doesn't get. So I got the FULL HDTV image straight to my MPVR. Freaking awesome. It looks a TAD bit pixelated on the big screen, but I WAS filming in QVGA mode (320x240) so no big deal really. VGA mode = H D T V Q U A L I T Y...ok so I don't have an HDTV to test it on, but it looks that D to the A to the M to the N good! I can't wait till Family Guy returns, oh man. Or ANY good TV show really...LOST!!! In fact, I can now go to the HD channels and record STRAIGHT from them !!! HOLY CRAP! I LOVE THIS THING! ACTUALLY...I might be able to record Showtime, HBO, etc...gonna test it, hold on.Awww,"DANG IT", noscrambled porn for me . Oh well there's always the internet :G!

Time for a little night test...OK I just went outside, it's pitch black outside right now, all i have is this street lamp to go on. I walked over to it and turned on night mode. It took a few seconds to adjust, but once it did, I could actually SEE quite clearly about ten feet in every direction. Freaking cool. LOVE it.

I'm lovin this thing more and more every second!!:-):-):-):|

UPDATE!!!! MACHRO!!!!!!

This needs no introduction...ok so it does...sort of. My1 year old Hound, Shawna, likes to curl of on this chair, in fact, she's in it more than anyone else! But anyway, the room was pitch black (cant' see a thing on the LCD), I switched to Machro mode and snapped this pic. Words can't describe how remarkable it turned out!

UPDATE!!!! Remote

More bad news. The Remote doesn't work as advertised. Instead of 21 feet, I am currently only able to control it from ONLY 45 feet away :-):-):-)

This remote is so handy...lol pun not intended. But yea if I have my MPVR in my pocket I can operate it from a foot away...yes it actually goes through clothing. Pretty powerful. My only gripe is that in order to see if it's recording I have to turn the camera AWAY from the sensor so I have to sort of bounce the signal off the back wall into the sensor. It WORKS, but it's a bit tricky to hit it. Overall, VERY pleased with it, extremely happy :-):-):-)

UPDATE!!!! Premium Glossy photo prints!!

I just printed out the pic above and ...surprisingly, it looks BETTER than it does on the screen. I'm truly awestruck....aka struck DOWN with AWE! Freaking cool. These prints come out looking like I just went to the 24 hour photo to get them processed. It's....remarkable, amazing...lol I feel like a broken record here.

MINI UPDATE

At the request of fishy, I will delete this HIGHLY DETAILED, INCREDIBLE pic of my dog Shawna. Way to kill the mood fishy, way to kill it

But then again :-):-):-):-)BECAUSE I HAVE IT ON MY PC, IN A 4x6 PHOTO a 8x10 PHOTO (yes you can print 8x10 with this monster---the MPVR of course)

I'm sold after this thread, thanks to 3FaCE's enthusiasm! I'm picking one up tommorow. I already have 2 minidv cams. I want something I can have fun with and keep in my pocket. If it doesn't work out, I can always return it!

BTW, any luck in FW and RR through mp3's and/or uploaded video?

Thanks

Sorry fishy. I've got that one disease...what's it called...oh yea, ILLITERATE! :-)

Anyway I'll just take it down if everyone who wants to see it already has....is that a yes? ALRIGHT, you don't have to YELL at me GOSSHHHH.

And to the other guy, sorry forgot your name lol, I'm glad I could sell you on it. Now if only Aiptek visited this forum...maybe they could give me a percent of their profit...nothing big, just like...maybe49% :-)

YES I can fast forward through all my clips, all my audio, all my DVR recorded material AND even a few movies I've converted and thrown onto my 1 gig SD card. Actually I lied about that last part. It's weird, a few converted movies let me rewind, but no fast forward. No big deal for me. I prefer to watch from 1st frame to last with no skips or jumps or OMG DID YOU SEE THAT REWIND! evrey 3 seconds. Still haven't converted a .mp3 to .wav, but I see no reason it WOULDN'T work. So if you REALLY need to rewind MP3s convert them to .wav and put them in the DCIM folder along with your CLIPs and PICTs.

Oh and the second this thing enters your life, you will enter a higher phase of existence. I call it "enlightenment." :|:|:|

...get it?
