So I just purchased a ISPAN DDV-920 from QoG. I've had a Supacam DV6 for a year and I really like the hybrid concept. But I wanted better quality and AV in, etc. The thing is that my new DDV-920 video didn't appear much better, if at all, from my old CMOS hybrid. On page 5 of my DDV-920 manual it says that the high resolution is 640x480 (1.8 Mbps) yet when I check the video bit rate on my PC it says its 233kbps. Am I missing something?

I have read your comments as well as many others. In general I liked my other hybrid but I just wanted better resolution for videos, that is why I choose the iSPAN DDV-920. I just want to understand why I see a 233kbps bit rate vs 1.8Mbps as per spec. My old camera had a 233 bit rate. I have an email in iSPAN as well. Is there a definitive way to tell a DDV-920 from a DDV-910?

I believe the 910and 920 have the same bit rates. The only diference is CMOS vs CCD sensor. The 920 should do betterin low-light. I don't know of any way to check the firmware version. Maybe the CE numbers are different - will check when I get home.

Thanks, Fishy. Added it to my Watch List. Will probably wait until the last few seconds to bid ... wouldn't want someoneto sneak in and outbid me.:G

Keep up the bargain hunting!

I followed your instructions and my FW is
D6A-Digilife-G0216P
05F8.001C.000F.01
702-05212L-B03

They use a funky font. I think if you recheck yours you will see that its a "G" after Digilife rather than a "6". However, I'm not sure this answers my question. There is nothing in this number which indicates to me that it is a DDV-920 and only a DDV-920. It could be the DDV-910 uses the same FW.

Also, WRT bit rates. I've never seen a bit rate specified for the DDV-910. It may be out there, but I've not seen it. However, iSAPN and Digilife *DOES* state a bit rate for the DDV-920. The fact that mine is only performing at 233kbps at high res bums me out big time! I've worked with 1.5Mbps - 2Mbps MPEG-4 and it is near DV quality. That is what I was expecting because iSPAN were quoting 1.8Mbps. What about those folks with the Digilife branded DDV-1000. Are you guys seeing 1.8Mbps bit rate?
