Hey Sg,

If you look on ebay for np-60s you can find them two for under $20 incl. shipping. The stock batteries don't seem to last that long anyways so why not just invest into a higher capacity battery? That is, if the contacts aren't the problem.

Sorry, I didn't see this post until today. I've had spare "eBay" batteries for all my hybrids that use NP-60's. So I've already verified that the camera works reliably with the eBay cheapos from digi-battery, than it does with the battery from Digilife. (I wonder where they get their batteries.)

Despite their higher MAh ratings, I've found the eBay batteries generally don't power the cameras as long as the original ones. I suspect they'r either inferior quality, or are cheap because they're nearing the end of their shelf life. My two most recent NP-60's had stickers indicating manufacture just a couple of months before I bought them. Can't beat the performance for the price, though, and I don't see why one should buy the $15-20 ones when the $1-2 ones seem to be fine. I just can't fathom why some sellers have these batteries for one cent, though, unless it's to minimize eBay selling fees.

I've just ordered a $1.50 SLB-0837 for the Samsung i6 I'm waiting for, since I'll need a spare battery or two for it.

Did you use the cd-rom that came with the camera to install the DivX codec? And if you've installed any software having anything to do with video etc. since then, you may need to reinstall the codec. I've seen evidence that installation routines for XviD remove the DivX codec. You can reinstall the DivX codec without losing the XviD.

I am undecided in the purchase of my camera. MPVR or DDV-XT16i (DDV-1000). I want to know if the XT16i has nightshot for video, because some sites publish this characteristic. but the manual shows that it is exclusively for picture.[/b]

Navigating in the Web I found digilife's videos (use navigator mozilla. internet explorer not download)[/b]

Night mode usually just means a longer exposure time. Which is fine if the subject matter isn't moving and the camera is motionless. Night mode doesn't magically extend the camera's capabilities, which are already being used to their maximum. In other words, a "night mode" is more marketing hype than enhanced capability. In the case of video, the camera just slows the frame rate automatically to allow longer exposure for each frame. You either set this if you have a night mode for video, or the camera does it automatically. The result is blurring and grainy frames, just like with night mode still shots.

Other means to deal with night shots are to use a flash or lamp, but that has limitations also.

The DDV-920/1000 is the best of these cameras I've had for shooting in dim light. It is complely useless in candlelight, or outdoors in the later stages of dusk, for instance. But for merely dim light, it's impressive. In dim light, it outperforms my Samsung Digimax i6, which is more of a mainstream digital still camera. (The only thing the i6 can do better in dim light is that you can do a time exposure of up to 16 seconds for still shots.) So in terms of what you can get for dim light shooting in this price bracket, I think you'd have trouble doing better than the 920/1000.
