APS Scanner Canon CanoScan FS 2710 vs Minolta Scan Dual III
I can’t decide between CanoScan FS 2710 and Minolta Scan Dual III. Can anybody give me an advice?
What I am actually looking for:
- capable of APS
- price under 400 € (436 $)
- I’d like to have a good one. I am not a profi. (though working professionally with video but I am not so much into photography)
What I want to do with it:
I have all my pictures mainly on APS (some slides). I’d like to archive them on my notebook and then on CD and build slide-shows. (With “dia-show 3.6” from aquasoft – by the way: can anybody recommend this software?)
Why these two?
An APS cartridge holder is available. For the Canon included, for Minolta optional. (That makes 140 € (152 $) addionally).
I found Canon for an affordable price at e-bay. Being sold for round about 300 € (327 $). And at Amazon.de there is the Minolta available for 380 € (414 $).
And somehow their reviews gave me a good impression: Not suitable for profis – therefore affordable – but still good quality.
But I am open for other products (if my confusion won’t get worse…!)
Pros and cons/ open questions
There are unfortunately hardly any reviews on the Canon CanoScan FS 2710. Although heaps about the next generation – CanoScan FS 4000 US. But this is a 1000 $ scanner – having of course excellent reviews.
Steve’s review on the Minolta Dimage Scan Dual III seems to me so la la (+/-).
Canon has SCSI – my notebook doesn’t. So I need addionally a SCSI – PCMCIA card from Adaptec. (1460 or 1480 (?), another 100 € (109 $)). Minolta has USB 1.1 and USB 2.0. What does this mean? What does SCSI, USB 1.1, USB 2.0 tell me about speed? My notebook has USB but I don’t know if it has USB 2.0. It is one year old.
The Minolta is new, Canon 3 years old (I think) – though seems to me coming from an excellent family.
Minolta is easily to get (Amazon.de), Canon I only found at e-bay (for that price) and I haven't been very succsessfull at getting something at e-bay yet...But I am still hoping to make it for 300 €...
I don’t know how much effort it is to get all my APS Cartridges scant – i.e. what means “single pass” in practise…?
Could anybody give me any advice? Or should I buy something complete different?
Somehow my heart beats for the Canon. Might be because I am very happy with my Canon Powershot S30.
I am very happy I found this forum! I would be really grateful if anybody out there could help me!
And steve’s –digicams- page is great! It helped my already a lot as I bought my digicam. By the way: thanks a lot, Steve!
