recently, positives (kodachrome) scanned with a super coolscan 4000 ed are losing the bottom end of the luminiosity spectrum--dark areas are coming out black or nearly so. the scanner is several years old and has scanned many hundreds of frames. is this a normal failure mode for this type of scanner? are there any diagnostics i can run to pinpoint the source of the problem?
