I'm looking for something to replace a Brisa 620U scanner which produces just plain bad photos.

I don't have a huge budget for the project, but I want to archive lots of family photos to digital format in the highest quality possible I can afford. What does everyone think of the Epson 2480? Is it worth spending the extra money for the film loader? I've heard that film scanning on flatbeds is a joke, but what do you guys think?

Finally is there a site around where there are reviews of scanners, that are as good as the reviews on steves-digicams, specifically with sample images? Thanks,

PC Magazine, Cnet and PC World review lower end scanners, but not at the level you are looking for. About.com links to the reviews and is probably your best bet.

This is the scanner I would recommend for your project if you have negatives to scan. It comes with the film and slide holders and does a decent job on film. http://printscan.about.com/od/scanne...sonPer4170.htm Newegg has it for $159 with free shipping and no tax in most states.
