I have the Canon 9950F. I have some high quality 8 x 10 photos I would like to archive onto CD-ROM. I figure I would never expect to enlarge these prints to any more than 16 x 20 prints (I realize that 16 x 20 will be pushing it while trying to retain quality). So I figured I would scan the 8 x 10's at 600 dpi, apply a little USM in Photoshop and save it as a tiff file.
Does this sound appropriate? Also, can I use this same file to print 5 x 7's or even smaller photos? Or would I get better quality small prints if I scanned at 300 dpi? THe reason I ask is that this seems like a lot of information (100mb+ file) for the printer to try to squeeze onto lets say a wallet size picture.
Just FYI, I have a Canon i960 printer that I might use, but for these portraits I would probably have an online service like mpix.com prints them.
Any advice would be soooo much appreciated!!!
