Problems with 35mm negative scanner

I have been using an HP4470c to scan everything (paper, slides and negatives) with one problem - in high resolution mode (in terms of the HP Scanjet controls 'resizing to 400% or 600%') the files resulting from scans of 35mm colour negatives are cyan (pale blue green) only. I suspect a software problem since the files resulting from scanning 35mm kodachrome slides are full colour. HP haven't posted a software upgrade since February 2002 (Precisionscan Pro 3.14) and this gives the same problem that I first noticed with version 3.12 which came with the scanner 11 months ago. Anyone out there found the same problem?
Many thanks, Ed Wilson
