Default scanning old photos

I just received 2 old photo albums that belonged to my parents. Some of the photos are 70+ yrs old. They were taken with the old "box" cameras available at that time and the quality is fair to poor. Some have faded, some have darkened, and some are spotted. There are several hundred prints, and they vary in size from thumbnail to approx. 3X3 or 4X4. Relatives want copies. I am looking at one of the Epson photoscanners. The 1660 is available at Costo.
Will this one be all that I need for this project?
What's the best/easiest way to scan them? (1 at a time, or a page of photos at once and crop them in an editing program?)
Does anyone have any other suggestions ?

Ron

Depending on what scanner you have, you might consider 'Vuescan' scanner driver software from Ed Hamrick (www.hamrick com). It's paid shareware with a free demo that puts a watermark on the images.

It has various facilities for improving scans from rough sources. It revolutionised the use of consumer filmscanners, and drives many flatbed scanners as well.

I would look at the Epson 3200 which will also let you scan various negative sizes and 35mm.
