I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAS TRIED REFILLING THESE CARTRIDGES BY LETTING THE CHIP BECOME DISABLED AND JUST KEEP RESETTING IT. IT SUPPOSEDLY CAN BE DONE IT JUST WON'T TELL YOU WHEN IT NEEDS REFILLING OR BY TAKING THE CHIP OFF REFILLING THE CARTRIDGE THEN REPLACING THE CHIP WITH STICKY TAPE. I THOUGHT I WOULD TRY IT BUT IF SOMEONE ELSE HAS PERHAPS THEY CAN TELL ME WHAT HAPPENS. THANKS KAREN

Hi,

refilling the cartridges can be done and resetting the chip is easy enough but you lose your ink monitor. The three issues with refilling are 1 - Make sure your ink supplier has the correct inks as the new 8/5 series cartridges use a different coloured (profiled) ink. 2 - refilling can lead to damaging your printer. In most cases people get away with it for a while but the issue is that these printers are thermal in that the print head heats up and is cooled by the ink. When you use a cartridge the sponge dries out and when you refill it gets wet again which leads to a break down of the sponge. Little pieces of the sponge then get trapped by the print head filter cover and once blocked enough the print head fails to get enough liquid to cool down, thus burning out your print head. 3 - when you reset the chip (or disable the moinitoring) you lose the ability to tell when your cartridge is empty.

As I've posted before I run a company which specialises in CISS or Continuous Ink Supply systems which is an alternative to refilling cartridges. If you follow the link below it will explain about resetting your cartridge chips (useful if refilling). feel free to visit our website as well www.rihac.com.au which shoes you how the MP500 can be fitted with a CISS. The other link is to the MP500 CISS instructions

Hope this helps.
