I am specifically looking at printing black text onto white, water-resistant, self-adhesive vinyl (think bumper sticker). The ink needs to produce a sharp, vivid black that will not fade or run for up to 1 year when placed outdoors and in the elements. From my understanding almost any inkjet printer will work "well" for this.

If that's true, what works THE BEST when printing onto vinyl:

1) Epson's piezoelectric ink jets -OR- HP and Canon's thermal ink jets?
2) Epson's "Dura-brite" ink -OR- pigment-based inks -OR- dye-based inks?
3) ... something else?

I am leaning towards the Canon MP530 because...

1) I can't find anything that says Epson or HP will print better on vinyl.
2) I don't need a high-volume or wide-format printer.
3) I do need the functions of an all-in-one printer (including fax).
4) Quality is important.
5) Speed and networking are not important.
6) It has a five-ink system so I can just refill the black ink.
7) Good price on both printer and ink.

Does this seem like a good solution or have I missed something entirely? Should I be looking elsewhere for producing better quality prints on vinyl?

Any and all feedback is appreciated! Thanks.
