Case for 6490

KODAK has announced that a case for the 6490 is in the works!

Actually, I just ordered a beautiful bag from Kodak which can be found here:

I suppose like most other equipment decisions, it's a personal thing. I've owned both medium and semi-large bags. Of course, if the bag is too large there's a tendency to fill it and then it becomes burdensome to tote the thing around. Soooo... you look for something smaller and soon discover that it won't carry all the things you "wished" you had when you're out in the field. For me, the Kodak so-called "large bag" doesn't appear that large that it would be troublesome. In fact, its dimensions aren't much greater than the medium bag but just enough that I could easily fit what I want into it: dx6490, flash, bracket, cleaning kit, manual, future filters (oh pleeeeease, Kodak!!!), and.. yes... my small Pentax 35 mm camera just in case. I don't see that load being terribly burdensome and the bag will be accessible... another consideration. If your bag is too small and too tightly packed, it becomes difficult to remove your equipment easily.

I bought a bag that, according to Kodak, is made for the 6490. It is the "Performance Digistal Bag.", product # 138-2084 . Bought it off Amazon for $24, it is about the size of the 6490 exactly (very compact). One down side, it is so small, that there is not any extra room (except there is a small pocket for extra memory cards).

There is a photo of this bag on the Kodak website. The photo makes the bag look larger than it actually is.

It's a nice looking bag, Jayman, but it would be too small for my needs. I like the large Kodak bag because I can carry my extra flash unit (Sunpak), the bracket for getting the flash away from the camera lens, the cleaning kit, the quick recharger and extra batter, the manual and even have room over for my little Pentax 35 mm camera and a sandwich! heh heh

And it's still quite light and so I won't be burdened as I was formerly with my Nikon and all the lenses I formerly dragged about.

I received the "EX-160" from LowePro as a gift. It fits the camera perfectly, with all sorts of room for batteries, chargers and *possibly* an external flash unit. I'll have to try my flash to confirm that.

I purchased a bag from Circuit City for $19.95 made for Ray-O-Vac. It contained 4 rechargeable 'AA' batts & charger (I can use them in other things!), and a basically worthless mini-tripod. Bag fits perfectly though. Plenty of room for extra cards, and my extra KLIC-5001 & charger! Plus, it's not huge. For me, it's just the right size. I lost the model number though.

I purchasred a NOVA MICRO by LOWEPRO for my dx6490,,,there is a divder that you can place at the bottom of the bag instead of sideways,,,that gives you room to put lense cleaning equipment batteries etc under it,,,then put the cam on top,,,fits excellent,,,,there are other pockets too,,,the one in the front holds my ELPH camera so I can have a film camera with me too,,,it`s a nice smaller size with great design..

The flash is a Sunpak auto 144 PC (not very powerful but perfect for indoor shots and for bounce) and the bracket is a simple deluxe brackte I purchased online from Porters for $10. They're both easy to use, make holding the camera much easier and take away red-eye and add modelling light when doing portraits. Much better than the built-in flash (IMO)
