Yes, this question has been asked 100's times, but specifically about
Kodak cameras. I've decided not to go with an SLR, but with a more compact P&S with a big zoom. The Lumix FZ50 was my main choice, but its too big and the lens sticks out too much. Also, besides the bigger sensor, rotatable LCD, and hot shoe, I see no need to pay 3x more for it. So given a choice between the ZD710(7mp, 380mm max), V1253, Z1085, Z1285, which is better? Hand-holding on a long zoom creates blurriness, so is cropping on a bigger sensor(Z1085) the solution? |

I'd get a Z712. It's IS goes a long way in eliminating camera shake and it currently available at bargain basement prices (way under a 1085). Never have seen a good reason to consider a ZD710.

The Z712 is a good choice and for the money a very good choice. Just remember to get a camera with a viewfinder and not just an LCD screen. The present trend to use the LCD to frame and shoot is not the best way and is so disheartening to see when watching people shoot photos.

Not saying you can't get some good photos that way but the percentage will go down if that is the way someone always shoots. The hands and arms tend to move more when extended than when the arms and body are closer. gets really bad when using a long zoom. In answer to your question yes....But then I know you knew...! LOL :G:G And I'm not even mentioning how hard it is to see the LCD in bright sunlight!
